right, so i am rebuilding a 91 sedan that has been sitting for 5 years now. it has been sitting around because the timing belt broke, and a couple of valves are bent. well my question is what should i use to get the "frosting" that is the oil off of the head, rocker arm assembly and so forth.

try aircraft remover it might work but i could be wrong someone correct me?

Aircraft might work
Hit it with some Seafoam or possibly Simple Green

I'd say either air craft stripper, orange cleaner or carb cleaner.

Just be very careful when you put it all back together that there is no residue left over.

you could also try the oil treatment that you run in an engine for about 5 minutes to clean stuff out. I think it is basically paint thinner.

soak it in some automatic transmission fluid, then use a soft plastic brush to scrub it. the trans fluid has some degergents in it and is basically what quick oil change shops use for motor flush(just not labeled trans fluid).


if that sounds to extreme, try wd40. it is basically a degreaser and it won't really hurt anything. just make sure you re lube before install.

Let it soak in a bucket of degreaser or whatever solvent you have for a few days. Then have at it with as wire brush.

let it sit in a bucket of diesel for a couple days then drop it in a bucket of gas and go at it with a tooth brush

laquer thinner or the politicaly correct term due to VOC's would be spay gun cleaner.. aircraft stripper is way to strong could also act as an acid on the cam valves and such. start small work ur way up

Don't waste your time with that head, bent vales, don't waste your time!
The local junk yard will have a good one for like $50, maybe less

we dont know if there is bent valves or not. we are gonna get it checked.

car doesnt run, and the head is off (see pics)
