Car shuts off at full stop
I got a 1990 ef hatch d15b1
everytime i hit the brakes and come to a complete stop the car shuts off or wants to die.
I turn the car on after and it starts and runs fine.
What's the problem?

Are you throwing any codes? Check for vacuum leaks........does it idle fine or does it just happen after you've been driving and hold the brakes at a stop light?

Re: Car shuts off at full stop
sounds like youre running out of fuel, same problem im currently having. does it die when making a right hand turn when the gas is low too?
try pumping in a full tank and see if it still dies at a full stop.

i know i heard that the iac could cause this and my idle is jumpy.

Pull back the carpet and keep the ECU exposed and see if it's throwing a code or if it throws a code when the problem happens. Maybe try testing your IACV and check for a vacuum leaks.

try sitting still at idle and pumping your brake pedal. if the car kills, you have a vaccuum leak. chances are the brake booster is bad from the master cylinder leaking fluid into it. less likely is the hose connecting the intake manifold to the booster, but its still possible.
if you cant make it kill like that, then its time to start looking at the IACV, vacuum leaks elsewhere on the engine, or even possibly a lack of fuel when braking. my 88 DX was doing it really badly when i bought it. it did it sitting still, so i replaced the booster and master cylinder and that stopped. but it still did it from a rolling stop, so i dropped the tank and found tons of rust in the tray around the fuel pump. i ended up replacing the entire tank, pump, and level sensor because of the large piles of rust on everything. that cleared it up *except* for when im below a 1/4 tank of gas. it's still trying to stall when im low on gas and im troubleshooting that right now.

I used to have the same problem but i changed a couple vac lines and cleaned out my iacv and it was good as new. i'd definitely clean out the iacv no matter what to rule that out. just the one that was on the car at least

The car starts to bog out when its low on gas. I know i have gas because i checked the tank. I try giving it gas when im slowing down and the car just bogs out and takes a while to get to normal, usually it turns completly off and it would take a while to start back up.

If you are still at a loss and you have tried everybody elses suggestions, have a look at this thread: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/car-dies-when-gas-goes-below-1-4-tank-help-searched-3024291/
This fix has worked for me and at least one other person. It's worth considering if the stalling only happens when your fuel level is at 1/2 tank or less. If you have the tank down, also consider replacing the fuel pump's rubber hose if it looks cracked/aged. It could be sucking air up.
NOTE: It is a big hassle dropping the tank if you haven't done it before. Exhaust all other options before pursuing this fix.
Also, is it an automatic or manual? High idle would make an automatic try to stall, and a mis-adjusted clutch could **** off a manual transmission.

Re: Car shuts off at full stop
Check for vacuum leaks and tell us what worked and what didn't. We can't help you til you try more things and get back to us. As for the IACV, the part numbers are the same.
Sources of vacuum leaks can be but aren't limited to:
Throttle body/gasket
PCV Valve/hoses
Intake manifold gasket
Brake booster vacuum line AND check valve AND the booster itself
IACV Gasket
TPS Gasket IF the throttle body is worn.
MAP vacuum line
Fuel injector O-rings
Try looking for some of these and get back to us. You said it only happens when the gas is low? You'll likely have to drop the tank and poke around because the fuel pump sock might have fallen off or the supply hose has deteriorated. I mentioned that issue in the thread I linked to in my last reply.

Re: Car shuts off at full stop
the issue with the car dying at 1/2 tank is cause because you have the incorrect fuel strainer.
you need to get one from advanced auto
part nuber fs121 brand is airtex.
you probably got a fuel strainer that points the wrong direct, but the fs121 points the correct direction.

Re: Car shuts off at full stop
Does the car only do it with anything less than a full tank? You said you drove the car 200 miles and then it shutoff. Was it fine those first 200 miles because it was just filled up?

Re: Car shuts off at full stop
I had the same problem. I have a 1998 honda accord ex 2d manuel transmission. I would always turn off then i cleaned the iacv and changed the pgm underneath the dash and shazzam. Its good.
