They may "look" fine , but , are they loose ?
It just might be that simple

Avoid riding the clutch as much as possible..

dude if you're hearing squeaks from the engine then its the belt,,,Either to loose or to tight

i think its pretty funny that someone with 2225 posts has to ask how to drive a stick because hes burning up his clutch. they have something just for you and its called an automatic transmission

ok, seriously, what the hell does having alot of posts have ANYTHING to do with knowing how to drive a manual car? he doesnt do the pedal work with his fingers! Duh..

and also for the OP, how much pressure do you feel when pressing in your clutch? Do you feel it "grip" when you pull the clutch almost all the way out, or do you feel it right away? Those can determine how worn your clutch is, and if you're riding it too much you'll smell the smoke. I'm not sure what your exact problem is, so I cant help you much

You would be able to here your brakes being engaged when your foot wasn't on the pedal, plus after a long drive you brakes/rim would be pretty hot. Plus you'd slow down pretty fast on a coast.

also, you could lift up the car, with no ebrake, and not have it in gear, and try and turn the tires, you could hear slight scraping, or simply hard to push the wheels

Yeah your brakes might be burning or you are low on brake fluid. And to check if you brake are dragging jack the car off the ground and spin the tires with your hand if there is abnormal friction then you know your brakes are dragging which could mean your brake cables are seizing up. Good luck

That happens all the time where I work...

You can use a wire brush on a drill to get it off if it is really bad..
