Default bearing in si tranny

installed a 90 si tranny in my hatch last weekend. when i installed the cv shafts i noticed that they moved around way to much. well pulled the trans back out and cracked it open to find that one of the bearings on the diff. was shot. and i mean gone. has anyone had a differencial bearing go bad before???

Yeah, It happens. previous owner either ran too long w/ a bad cv joint or improperly removed/installed the axle. Shouldn't be too hard to clean it out and put a new bearing in there.

if your tranny is full of silvery goop, like one i came across that had a diff bearing disintegrate, then you need to clean EVERYTHING out. i mean, take apart all the gears, and most importantly, clean out the input and counter shaft which are bored with tiny oil passages that need to be cleared out.

honestly, depending on how long youve been riding on this bad tranny, i would scrap it.
