D series tranny bearing
I just bought a Si tranny to put in my car because the input bearing in my current tranny are bad. I am contemplating rebuilding the tranny before i put it in the car, but i wanted to ask some q's first.
Should the input shaft have any play?
If so, how much is ok?
(the input shaft on this tranny has a tiny bit of (up and down) play but no (in and out) play)
When you spin the input shaft with your hand should you hear somewhat loud noise coming from it?
(when i spin the input shaft it does make some noise similar to the noise my bad input bearing make now but does not feel rough or hard to spin)
Also, how hard is it to replace the bearings yourself?

Re: D series tranny bearing (confusion)
Split the trans open (you'll need snap ring pliers). Remove gear stacks. Rent a slide hammer from Autozone to pull the bearing out. Stick the new bearing in the freezer. Tap it in. Put the trans back together. There are write ups on here of how to do it.
