And I have read the honda manual, and the haynes manual, and i also have access to alldata.... i have not read in any of those that they recommend it as a temporary replacement. just an alternative if HONDAS product was not available. Even if they DID say it was temporary, again, because honda wants to make a buck and sell you THIER product, just like every other company on earth!!!

Use Honda MTF. I have, on several occasions, had it improve shift quality and at least temp. provide some relief to worn synchros. While it obviously doesn't fix worn synchros (grinding gears) it has helped me on several occasions. Motor oil does not contain the same addatives as Honda MTF. If you like motor oil, use it. Personally I use and reccomend Honda MTF.

I am just sick of this dam topic its always a raging debate on who uses what and this is better then that, well i got feed up and took mtf and castrol 10w30 to my Chemistry professor ph-d doctor from Colombia, and asked him which was better for a transmission, please be aware that he has a masters in automotive engineering, and he took it and put it under the scope, and he quoted "I would use the Honda fluid over the castrol or any other normal motor oil" because of the crazy additives that are in it, he stated that the honda fluid help with weather in a way that will keep you gears from tearing apart, and if you check different trannys magnets after use, with one with honda and regular motor oil you will see the difference, This is just imo, to everyone there own, but if you want to keep your tranny for awhile then i would put mtf in it, if you are stern on thinking that you are the smartest person in the world because you have done it so many times with out any problems then do what you want i just wanted to state this because i am sick of the topic, and i dont care what you people have to say about my info i am just tossing it out there.

Ok I know this a really old thread, but seeing as how this was never really properly addressed. There was a time not that long ago when Honda didn't make their own MTF. They recommended 10W30 at that time.

...My OEM Honda Manual that came with the car from the dealership says that you can use 10W-30 as a temporary replacement, not trying to start anything, just saying....

Re: Type of Transmission Fluid for my trans?
Honda MTF is the way to go all day everyday if it has OEM Honda parts in it. im a Honda service tech and have seen numerous shift concerns resulting from wrong fluid use. put Honda MTF and its gets better or helps it. in fact its about the first thing I check for when I see a Honda with a shift concerns.

Re: Type of Transmission Fluid for my trans?
5w30 is only used as a temp fix, as the honda manual states for me. It does not MEAN TROUBLE. Honda MTF is not a performance fluid so for those looking to get some life while ******* there MT they need to look for something better. Simple as that
