Re: Timing Belt Replacement Trick
I get the theory here, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth. I imagine it's rather difficult to cut the belt that way.
The biggest mistake people make when doing timing belts is trying to take up the slack on the front side.

I think it would take WAY more time to cut the belt down the middle (which sounds next to impossible BTW), than it would to simply line up all marks and slip a new belt on. Either way you still need to spin the motor around by hand afterward to double check all marks still line up.
Good effort though...

He is right tho, if your gonna do it, do it right. It is recommended to change the belt, pump, and tensioner all at once

Is there a way to lock the crank at TDC? Is there pins for the SOHC heads? Or is that just for DOHC?
It's not hard to see that the cam is in the right position, but the crank is a little harder since the mark on the pulley is pretty faint and the mark on the oil pump is usually covered by dirt.
I guess a good tip for people would be to power wash or at least hose down their engine and engine bay after using degreaser on it. A clean engine is so much nicer to work on.

Haha nice man why didn't i think of that. Instead of cutting your belt in half and breaking it(like stretching a rubber band and breaking it) he cut it in half the other way like tearing a piece of string cheese from top to bottom. Now that the belt is cut that way he left the side thats closer to the motor on and took the other half off, put the new one and cut the last bit of the old one off.

He can't even freaking spell! if you want to be taking serous learn spell, and type like someone who has half a damn brain cell.
Another reason is, timing belt in a hour?
The caps doesn't really bug me, it's the fact it took me 3 try's just to guess what he is trying to say.

I couldnt help but join the forum after reading this. Good idea.. but so overly time consuming. Clamps. Just use clamps. It's far too easy a job to go through all this... and you should change the pump and rollers... always.
