Re: targa top handle broke!!
Mine broke recently, also. Looks like the handle just cracked because it still closes the top enough so it doesn't move around. But, it won't officially lock or turn the light off on the dash. Hoping I don't have to replace the whole locking mechanism. I figure I have to replace the handle either way so I'll start there. Anyone know how to replace a targa top handle? Thanks!

Re: targa top handle broke!!
It was super easy to remove the handle. There's a little plastic screw cover that comes off, and it's held on with one screw. I bought a new handle on ebay so hoping that's all it will take to fix it, especially considering how many people have said those things break easily. Shoot -- knowing the service center at my local dealership, they would have charged me $500 to do the same repair (they wanted to charge me between $300-600 to replace my radio antenna and screwed up my clock and radio in the process of just looking at it. I STILL have to replace my own antenna AND figure out what they did to screw up the clock and radio because they insist they both spontaneously stopped working and need to be replaced now). After I brought it to them, I found out that this particular dealership service center is very bad about damaging otherwise working parts in order to drum up sales, especially with women.

cost me 40$ for a set of 2 when I dropped my roof and broke both.
Just peal off the little plastic grommet in the middle remove the screw and pop on the new handle and screw it back down
put the broken handle on and vice grip it shut so you only damage the broken handle

Mine broke as well. I just wrapped a folded up paper towel around it and turned it closed with a pair of pliers.

Were you able to get them off?

Re: targa top handle broke!!
For my Del Sol I made my own handles.
I used 1/4" steel plate and cut it into the shape of the stock latch. I drilled a 1/2" hole where the splined part goes. I welded the spline from my original handle into the hole. Paint it black and never replace a handle again.

Re: targa top handle broke!!
Well, upon further review, it looks like the moron who had the car before me decided to just use vice grips to unlock the roof instead of buy actual handles.
When I checked again, I actually don't have the ridged part on the screw; it's just the bare metal screw that's mangled because of the vice-grips use. I got new handles, but the ridges won't catch on the screw because they're in really bad shape.
Is there any way to simply replace the screws on the roof locks? Or will I have to buy a new roof?
