subframe tearout with beaks kit?
im running a 22 mm ITR rear sawy bar with beaks kit. i have the off the shelf "street" version ground control coilovers. should i have any worries about my springs being too soft and eventually experiencing subframe tearout in the rear? or are the springs that come with the GC coilovers ok to use with the sway bar?
what the spring rates on those GC springs?

Beaks, BSQ, or some re-enforcement kit I made in my own garage blah, blah, blah
If you run a stiff rear sway bar mounted to a rear subframe that was not designed for it, then beat the **** out of it you're more likely to have tearout.
Adding higher spring rates can help alieve some of the stress on the subframe and can help...but I have talked with someone and seen his car with tearout that occured over a long period of time with alot of track driving. It had BEAKS as well as very high spring rates in the back.
Personally I think it is dumb to run an ITR or eqivalent bar without some type of re-enforcement.
Think of it this way "If you know you're around fire and could get burnt...wouldn't you wear some heat gloves anyways???"

Wow. Good find on that info.
Still curious about the EG chassis. I have an ej with the 23mm ITR rear bar and the beaks kit... wondering if I need to spend the 200$ on an ASR.

I just bought the ASR brace, and it's a really nice piece of equipment. For $185 shipped, it's a good investment. From what I've seen, the Beak's kit is basically a sway bar mounting bracket that really doesn't offer too much bracing. With the Beak's kit, the sway bar is still mounted to the subframe, while the ASR brace has the sway bar mounted on it.

-2% for mike, who likes to bump old threads j/k man (101% wtf, give me that 1%)
take it for what its worth.
i was running a 93 civic with oem shocks, with a bsq kit and a 23mm itr rear sway. tons of malibu runs, potholes, never a problem with tear out. for 1 year
ive also put more than enough stress on the subframe by then going to tein ss dropped 3" same malibu runs. still no sign of tearout. for 1 year
oh and i weigh a healthy 230lbs. so do not worry about the tear outs on eg. just do the proper torque and preload the suspension
if anyone has an ek i would get a subframe brace.
my current setup is a mugen rear 26mm, lowered 3" on buddy club rs, and i now use an asr subframe brace due the the 26mm rear sway. that **** is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha funny. I don't even know where the +1% came from.
I figured the 23mm would be okay with the Beaks kit for now... just wanted to see some other examples. 26mm is ******* HUGE!

Re: subframe tearout with beaks kit? (JDM_Ej)
i cut reinforcement plates, and have been running a 26mm mugen bar since 1999 with no issues. i just got a ASR 32mm kit, and will be planning on swapping out soon.

If you have a '96-00 Civic, your subframe will tear - it's just a matter of time.
If you have a '92-95, you'll probably be okay - though if it were my car, I'd personally still run the ASR kit.
GC OTS rates should be 350f/250r.

It's not just the diameter, but also the wall thickness (for a hollow bar) that determines the torsional stiffness.

this was a loooooooong time ago. the setup has changed.
