Starting probem - No crank
Dang, Im stuck fellas.
My 1999 Civic EX 5-Spd has been acting a lil crazy lately. For the past 4 months, its would give me a “no start” problem but then with a few clicks of the ignition, it would finally start. The problem seemed very sporadic, but now its not wanting to start at all!
Here are the symptoms and what I have tested so far.
Symptom: I go to turn the ignition to the “On Position and the instrument panel lights up and I hear the main relay click three times, then turn it to the ”Start position”, but I only hear the starter “Loud click” but not turn or at least try to turn.
Stuff I’ve checked
1. I’ve checked the main relay by listening for three clicks (1st click Fuel pump prime – on position 2nd click fuel pump off – still on position and 3rd click - Start position)
2. I've checked the neutral safety switch, by bypassing the swtich at the wire connection with an clilp - still nothing
3. I recently had my ignition switch replaced by Honda since when I bought the car I had realized that it qualified for the recall of that.
4. Today i took my starter to Vato Zone and check it out, they said it was good but when I came back and installed it, it turned on twice then nothing. I then hit it with a hammer and then started again once, then nothing. WTFREAK!!!
This leads me to believe that the solenoid is getting stuck at the starter..does this sound right? Or could it be something inside the ignition not making a connection?

Re: Starting probem - No crank
check the spade connector on the starter to see if its loose, doesnt fit right or something.... i had this same problem for about 6 months on one of my cars before i figured out the spade terminal on the starter wire kept coming loose.

If the starter connections are solid, then I think the "new" starter is a dud.
Edit: Clean and tighten the G3 ground wire that connects the engine to the transmission. This ground is needed for the starter.

Re: Starting probem - No crank
Yes I did, no reason it should have came loose since i haven't done any work around there.
UPDATE!
I bought a used starter w/6month warranty off of www.car-part.com from a local dealer here for 35.00.
I've only turned it on twice but no issues so far! YAY!
