Default Starter motor not kicking in.

I started having trouble with my starter motor and/or solenoid. The relay clicks but I do not hear the solenoid clicking. I have to have someone cranking the car and I hit the solenoid with a tool for it to start the motor. I have replaced the solenoid for a brand new one, The first day it worked fine, now it is the second day, and the third time I turned the car on today it was stuck again, I had to hit it while cranking for the motor to start. The starter motor was rebuilt one year ago and still turns softly, I dont think it would be that. Is there any way I can check the solenoid? I know 12v is getting to the solenoid from battery and 12v on signal wire when key is turned.

Well the motor was rebuilt by me, the brushes were changed. When I had the motor out I checked and the brushes looked fine, and the motor turned without a problem. And like I said, I do not hear the solenoid clicking, when it does work you can hear a click from the solenoid then the motor turns.

I dont want to go out and replace the whole motor, I live in a small city in mexico and the only place that has the starter for this car has it at 5 times the price it should be.

Well, sometimes you do things you dont want to. its up to you. also maybe you not the best rebuilder around as well. If price is the issue rebuild it again and see what happens.

whats 5 times the price? give us a rough number on what you would pay for a starter. because i can promise you that whatever the price is, its not as bad as being down a vehicle.

The price is about 300 dollars, and I just want to make sure it has to be done. I will buy it if I have to or try another rebuild but I want to make sure. I should have thought about the cable method, once it fails again i will try giving the starter 12v directly. What I think might be happening is since the solenoid also pushes the "bendix" into the flywheel maybe it is getting stuck. I will try and check it all tomorrow if I have time.

Most of the times the motor turns with the key. I have to wait for it to fail so that I can bypass the solenoid and connect 12v directly to motor and see if the motor turns. If I do it when it is actually working, then we already know it will turn.

Ok, weel it failed today on second start, so I jumped 12v directly to the motor and it was stuck, gave it a tiny tap and it started. I opened up the motor and the brushes seemed to be wearing out more on the bottom of all. Checked the part that goes there and there was a copper piece coming up. I sanded it down, made sure everything was nice and soft so it wouldnt get stuck with the brushes. Now the car starts faster, sounds a lot better when starting and I had thought my battery was dying because it had such a hard time starting but now starts everytime. Thanks for the help, probably should have asked you guys before buying the solenoid.
