rpm drops and car turns off... 98 civic hatchback
while driving when i shift into neutral, the rpms drop and car shuts off... i turn car back and continues to shut off.
i've tried replacing the alternator and the battery. worked fine for about a week, but problem returned today.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

It only shuts off when you are driving and shift into neutral? Or when you are at a stop?
Could be a fuel problem how is your fuel pressure? Maybe try some carb cleaner.
How is it when you are driving? Does it sputter at all when you accelerate.

if i have the transmission in gear and release the gas pedal, no problem.
but if i hold the clutch in or at a stop, the engine rpms drop till it shuts off.
while driving on flat land, no problem. but during an incline the engine struggles a lil.
i went to auto store and asked around, they suggested changing the fuel filter.
changed that out, but got too tired and i'll find out the results tomorrow
i did turn it on while in the driveway and the car idled fine, i even waited for it to warm up and still no problem. guess i'll have to wait and see how she acts tomorrow during my drive to work.

the accord had this issue and had recalls about it and it was a faulty ign switch and i think some civics had that to but there wasnt a campaign to do anything about it

ive already changed the ign switch, but that would just cut out all of a sudden. it wouldnt happen when i let the engine idle.
thnx for the responses so far guys, hopefully it was just a dirty fuel filter, will have to wait till tomorrow to find out if that was the problem.

try adjusting tps, check ignition timing, or simply take a flat head screw driver and turn the screw on the throttle body to let more air in..

well it wasnt the fuel filter! stupid car kept doing
so i bite the bullet and took it to the damn dealership
so they say that the valves needed readjustment, too much carbon buildup in throttle body,
and the cap and rotor had to be replaced... my pockets hurt
well, hopefully this thread helps other ppl out there.

wow something simple as valve adjustment and a lil tune up by replacing cap and rotors on distributor.. and cleaning the throttle body.. go figure.. I might need to do the same just in case.
