Question about swapping current mini me z6 head to y8 head
Hey all, LONG time no post!
I recently purchased a beautiful 94 CX with perfect body and brand new paint job (1 week old) and am in love with it. It has a mini me B8/Z6 combo with I/H/E, Skunk2 IM and Z6 tranny with a P28, 4 wire o2 sensor, etc. Even has working ice cold AC. The thing runs superb and is pretty damn peppy/zippy. I love it.
I also currently have a 92 LX Sedan with a complete d16y8 swap with SI trany, running all obd1 components. The Y8 head also has a OBD1 skunk2 IM on it. Both the head and IM have been port and polished and have been port matched together. The head has a 3 angle valve job, 1mm oversized lapped valves, new valve guides and seats, upgraded tight dual springs with titanium retainers, either stage 1 or 2 cam, and adjustable skunk2 cam gear. I believe the head may have been milled as well. The head is CLEAN as it can ever possibly be. It also has a chipped p28 with it. Now THIS engine pulls WAY harder and sounds BEAUTIFUL when vtec hits. Vtec hits very aggressively to the point where I almost get a hard-on everytimr I hear or,which also It quickly revs supper happy all the way to 8,000 RPM and just wants to keep climbing with power if it weren't for the 8,000 rpm rev limit. Anyone I race swears I must have a b16/b18 because of the beautiful sound. This engine sure made me love my 4 door all over again.
Anyway, unfortunately I ended up spinning a bearing (I'm told it's due to the crappy block/oil pimp limitations on the y8 block). Many people keep begging to buy the head off of me but I keep refusing due to my love for it. I'm being offered a newly rebuild y8 block from a close friend for 150. I'm definitely going to buy the block, but in the mean time I'm thinking of maybe just slapping this bad boy on my hatch with the b8 block.
I know lots about mini me swaps and have read hundreds of pages with different head/block combos but nothing in relation to what I want to do.
So to outline my questions;
I currently hae a mimi me setup in my cx. Stock z6 head on a stock b8 block(confirmed 4 valve relief pistons) with z6 si tranny. Compression tested 205 to 210 all across the board.
1.)Should I go ahead an slap this Y8 built head on my b8 block?
2.) Since this is already a mini me engine to begin with, will I still need to buy/replace any new components? I have both cars and engines complete side by side in case I'm short any parts. Since my b8 block is 12 degrees BTC, and so is my Y8, I should have no problems, correct?
3.) I should use a y8 metal gasket?
4.) d16 vtec eche
ad to d16 head should be easu,d

Re: Question about swapping current mini me z6 head to y8 head
You stand absolutely nothing to gain from switching from the Z6 head to the Y8 head. You would have to replace your head studs, as well as all of the gaskets up there.
Why exactly do you want to do this? There's zero point to it.

"All motor D"..... for all the money spend you could have a b18c1 or boost your d16 and walk a GS-R. as jbpnoman said there's no point in the head swap in this case.
