My 96 LX temp gauge needle falls exactly where Ron's does in the picture above.

As promised, here's the position of the temp gauge of my bone stock 00 Civic EX at full operating temp (midway point marked with red line for reference). (and yes, it's an automatic)

Engine Running at Full Operating Temp

Thanks Ron, that is where my 96 Ex almost is just a tad higher., I am thinking the EX runs a tad hotter than the DX.

I think my DX and EX temp readings are about the same. The EX temp gauge is just smaller.

Temps were in the 90s here yesterday and after a bunch of city driving my temp gauge was still at 1/3 from the bottom.

Both 97 & 99 hx's temp gauge is straight across. I drove the 97 home from work today and outside temp was just over 100 degrees, the drive each way is anywhere from 45min-1hr depending on traffic but mostly on the highways. Even using the a/c the gauge still stays straight across.

My 95 del sol runs right at the halfway mark for the most part. Rebuilt engine has 6000 miles and aluminum replacement radiator and new thermostat has about 45000 miles. I drive down a mountain pass in the morning that requires me to leave my foot off the gas at 80-90 mph for about 4-5 minutes. During this time the gauge will drop to as low as 1/8 (there is no fuel 0 combustion and cool air/coolant moving through the engine). It quickly rises back to half when gas is applied again.

Ron what is the factory temp thermostat in the Ex's?

Have you ever changed yours?

I recently replaced the original OEM thermostat in my 97 Civic with a brand new OEM one. The temp gauge reading at normal operating temp has always been the same since the car was new. Using a scan tool, my coolant temp always falls within spec for both Civics. I know my temp gauges are reading as they should. I'm concerned about members whose temp gauges regularly run at the midway point. I continue to believe that this is not normal.

How do you use a scan tool to get temp?

What is the temp supposed to be?

Mine always sits at about 2/5th of the way up. It has on every single Honda I have ever owned.

That is about where Ron's Ex's pic is running 40% up that is where mine is too or just a hair higher, right on the bottom line of the temp symbol.
