Default Painting Valve Cover question

I hear people say that when you paint your valve cover, you should get a new head gasket? Why is this? I have searched and nothing. Sorry if its a stupid question just making sure nah mean? -thanks

I checked mine and it was fine....no need to replace it unless it's in bad shape.

They are talking about a VALVE cover gasket, NOT the head gasket. Usually when you remove the valve cover, it is recommended you replace the gasket there. It's not necessary, just put some Hondabond on the edges and put it back.

Like the above poster said, just check the integrity of it. If it's bad, replace it, if not, leave it.

when i painted mine i didnt replace it.. just used some sealant

quick question, do you need to torque the VC to a certain spec or can you just bolt it on?

i always do it just a little less than hand tight tightened it too much once and the top half snapped had to use the screw remover not sure of name only know craftsman makes it to get it out than was a fun couple hours haha

broken valve cover bolts are a pain. i beleive no more than 7lbs\tq. go easy
