Overheating
Hey guys, I'm having a slight problem and need some things figured out. I got a 1992 Honda Civic with a D15B7 in it all stock about 90,000 miles on it. About 30 minutes into driving around the car will start to overheat but it doesn't max out the temperature gauge goes to 3/4ths or so and the car will cool down again. The fan works, the upper hose gets hot and there are absolutely no leaks. The coolant from the overflow tank seems to be disappearing as well. No oil or change in the color of the coolant but I did find that the lid for my overflow tank was cracked. I suspect that the thermostat is sticking closed a bit longer than it should due to the fact that the cooling system seems to be delayed. When the fan turns on shouldn't it stay on until the temperature is at an acceptable level?
This is how the inside of the overflow tank looks.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Overheating
bleed ur system
is it the oem rad btw
mine was overheating when id sto a a light in 80 degree weather
the fan and everyhting was working
i think the fan should def. stay on unless ur temp gauge is messed up
make sure ur system is bled and no leaks at all, that was my cause a very small leak i never noticed until i put my hand under a small hose. it was cracked only when u bent it u could see the hole

Re: Overheating
OEM radiator
you know, the upper hose was recently replaced is it possible the system wasnt bled correctly or at all after installation?
so the fan should stay on until temperatures are normal?
also, does this sound like a thermostat issue at all?

Re: Overheating
my car was doing something similar, over heating about 3/4 way. my fan would run but wouldn't run as long as it should. I replaced the fan temp switch and it fixed the problem. its possible the fan relay has gone bad too. your fan shouldn't be shutting off if the car is still hot.

Re: Overheating
thermo could be a problem, could be stuck open or slow to open
u can test it in boiling water see if it opens
check it out replace it, good tune up thing to do anyways

Re: Overheating
let it warm up and rev it to 3k until fans turn on with the radiator cap off to bleed it
and squeeze the hoses too while the rad cap is off to get the bubbles moving

Re: Overheating
is this "WangLung" on Forumshawaii.net?
ANYWAY it sounds like ur coolant wasnt bled. my car's coolant wasn't bled and ended up overheating in Stop-and-go traffic only. pulled over, bled it, and it was all good. and yes the fan should turn off when ur car has reached a good temp.
