Default Oil Pan Gasket Help

OK, so i'm about to tackle the oil pan gasket tomorrow and i need some help. I'm looking at the Haynes manual and it says to torque down the oil pan bolts to 104 in lbs... doesnt that seem a little too much for the pan? A buddy of mines said 9 or 10 lbs should be enough for it. I want to get your guys take on this... wtf should i do????

that's because that's 104 INCH pounds, as opposed to FOOT pounds. 104 in. lbs. is roughly equivalent to 9 ft. lbs.

when i do them i usually just use a 3/8" ratchet and snug them by feel.

104 in lbs = 8.66666666666666666666666666 ft lbs.

104/12 = 8.6666666666666666666666666666

LOL if you would have had that torque wrench at 104 lb-ft. snap snap snap.
