My rear brakes are dragging- 5 lug conv
I need some advice on my brakes. I have a 99 CX hatchback (no ABS) with:
00 ITR MC
00 ITR Brake Booster
00 ITR Front knuckles and brakes
00 ITR Rear trailing arm and brakes
99 SI Ebrake cables
99 SI Prop valve
Problem is that my rear brakes have a slight drag to them and I haven't been able to fix it. It's not a huge amount drag, but it has worn my rear pads prematurely. If the back is raised on a jack, I can spin the tire and hear the pad touching. The tire will rotate a few times and come to a stop instead of gradually slowing. So far I have tried unbolting the MC from the booster to make sure that the booster rod isn't keeping pressure on- that didn't help. The Ebrake was slacked and it didn't help. Any idea? Prop valve maybe? My fronts are fine; tire spins freely. It's only in the back. I'm planning on some new pads, but I don't want them eaten up because of this.

check to see if the rear calipers are siezed and check cables, you did you the right e-brake cable right?

How does one check to see if they are seized? They squeeze just fine, I was checking it out because my wear indicator started squeaking. That's what alerted me to it. I took off the ebrake cable on the caliper and there was no tension on the cable. I screwed the piston in a few turns and put it all back together. It spun freely. I started the car and mashed the pedal a few times then checked it again. It was dragging afterwards. What makes the calipers open after letting off of the pedal?

if you can move your car by physically pushing it around without much effort, then i wouldn't worry about it.
try lubing up the slider pins. otherwise, i don't think you have anything to worry about unless your car slows down when you clutch in when stopping at a light.

I have heard of this problem before. A little drag is normal so hearing the pads against the rotors while free spinning the wheels is normal and good! Are all the pads wearing evenly or is the inboard or outboard wearing faster on one side of the car or the other? If you have premature wear on the inboard and or outboard pad then you have slide pins freezing or caliper/hose problems on the affected wheel/s. If both rear wheels are wearing evenly but quickly as in less then 15,000 miles you have a hydraulic problem. The brakes are staying applied even after your foot is off the pedal. I remember that 2 techs did this conversion and ended up going to the car that they stripped the brakes from and took the master cyl. and proportioning valve which fixed the problem. Don't know which of the 2 fixed it but they replaced both. Good luck!
