Engine won't start after driving in heavy rain.
Hi Folks,
I have a 94 v-tec civic with 200k on it. It has rained really hard here a couple of days. The car ran fine in the rain, but today, the day after, it won't hit.
This has happen once or twice before after a few days of very very damp conditions.
What might be getting wet? Any ideas? thanks.

and spray water on it....?
it's tryin to start but won't. I smell gas now. I up the hood up to air it out, and I'll let it sit a while and get un-flooded.

yes water lol a little mist woulnt bother it, but now that u say that sound like it may be flooded but u say it happens when it rains i dont think the rain will caust it to flood. will it even crank? wait till it runs and try and mist it and see if you see a littl spark mainly around the distributer ur seal around the cap on the distrubter might be broke and letting water in

change your cap and rotor and see if that works.... happened to me
any moisture in there can cause that problem

it doesn't look wet, although there's water on top of the engine block. I must of run through some puddles.
The rotor tip looks pretty worn though?

if its worn down id recommend changing it ... you might not be getting proper contact between the rotor and cap

Dry as a desert in there. I guess the moisture is hiding somewhere else. It'll be running again in a day or two.. :-/

Now it is hitting, starting, but it won't keep running. I know it's not fuel because I smell gas after trying it for a while. Maybe a shortage somewhere?
Fudge. This isn't my usual problem. Looks like a trip to the mechcanic.
edit: I sandpapered the contacts inside the cap, very lightly. Did I mess it up?

Did your problem ever get resolved?
I also live in the South, and have recently had the same problem with my 95 V-tec Civic. Seems like it's a pretty common one.
It's been wet here for 2 days, and my car won't start.
I can't get my distributor cap off to dry it out/replace it because the bolts are stripped. Ugh.

Hey Dude,
Thanks for replying.
Yeah it did. I am in technical school so I took it to the shop guys for a timing belt change.
They replaced the plugs also, and said the gap was way off on the old ones. It has cracked like a champ since then. I hope that is all that your problem is.
