Re: Do I need new struts before I put on my lowering springs?
Not always true. I'm tucking my 50R15 tires with stock struts front and back.. the ride is a bit rough but a lot better than most honda's acura's i been in. Been riding strong for a year now, just dont take your car off bumps going 18456 MPH lol..
Oh and my car on stock struts drives better than my friends eg who's about .5" higher with koni yellows

Not to mention what to do if you break a bolt... It took me two hours to extract a LCA bolt with a sawz all, a drill, and a pair of vice grips...
Not to mention I had to drop the LCAs, shocks, and sway bar all as one piece because I couldn't get the bolts off the shock/LCA with an impact gun...

Yes, you need new struts and shocks. Not just any will do. They need to be performance grade to properly compliment the performance springs you're installing. I recommend Tokico Illuminas because that's what I'm using and I have absolutely no complaints. They are 5 way adjustable too, which is great for daily driving and track days.

The Tokico's adjustability is really inconsistent on a shock dyno from what I've seen. I would go with koni yellows if you can afford them. People seem to like the Tokicos as well, so I'm sure they're fine.

Illumnia's are a pretty good shock, i know a few people with them and i had them on my old car. The rode decently despite being slammed on cut no name coilovers.

Re: Do I need new struts before I put on my lowering springs?
I bought a whole dropzone kit for mine springs and struts for about 250 shipped.
I was on a budget...i had a blown strut...and I wanted to lower it at the same time if I could.
OEM struts will go out within weeks or maybe last a few months if you're lucky.
I've had my dropzones for about a year now and I like the ride quality and it's about a 2.5 drop and looks really clean.
