Default Distributor Question

My buddy told me that an advance auto part distributor would be okay for my del sol, but i got other friends that told me to go buy the honda oem part, because they said they had issues w/ the one from advance. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I would recommend OEM, only because I had problems with Napa, autozone and advance distributors in the past.

As long as the one from Advance has a lifetime warranty you might as well get that one as it is probably much cheaper.

They're seriously junk. Lifetime warranty sounds great, but when you're stuck on the side of the road somewhere it sucks.

Never had an issue with one myself, and to be honest oem ones are junk as well, so I always carry a spare on any long trips just in case. Hondas weak point.

Having burned through 3 advance distributors in a week, I will take my chances with OEM any day....

Yes and no, upfront cost is high, but you can pretty much count on getting at least 10 years out of it. If you get a cheapo aftermarket distributor and have to get towed, even if the replacement distributor is under warranty it will add up over time.

Looking back, if I didn't have such a good relationship with our local Advance Auto, I would either look for a good used oem part, or just pay the high $ amount for an oem one. Nonetheless, honda ignition systems (oem or not) are the weak point of our cars.

There's never anything wrong with going OEM. When in doubt, go OEM IMO.Whenever I do maintenance on my car, I always try to buy OEM. If it's something that's cheaper elsewhere that I know will work just as well (ie - brake pads, rotors, bulbs, etc.), I'll buy elsewhere.

I have 216k miles on my stock dizzy on my d16y8 and never had a problem. Original o-ring too. It just started going bad within the past 5k. Already ordered a Honda one .

actually now that i think about it..ive bought both..re manufactured for my civic and a new one for my moms car..and still no problems so far...but dont go by what people say sometimes or so called rumors..there is a chance they come defective already but in that case they have warranty so take it back if defective and get a new one.

I went ahead and bought a re-manufactured one from advance... if it can hold up for a few months I'll have enough cash by then to really dish out on a new one or fix my old one.
