Default D16Y8 Knocking, what are the possible problems?

Long story short, last July I lost a lot of oil in my D16Y8. Didn't notice until I had a bad knocking noise. It was loud. Definitely coming from the bottom end. So I ordered a b18c and just swapped it out. Now I have this d16 sitting in my garage collecting dust. I was thinking about rebuilding it and buying a some kind of older civic to throw it in for a winter beater. What possibly could the knock be? I was thinking maybe a spun rod bearing. How easy/how much money would you estimate that it would take to fix it? I know that depends on what exactly is wrong. I'm just looking for any info that I can get.

It is probably a spun rod bearing. Just buy a bearing set and install them yourself. Wont cost much, and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Oh, and you might want to check your crank for scarring.

Depending on how bad of a knock you might need a new crank as well as new rods.

build it(if you can afford a b18c, you can prob afford to build a D.) throw like a grand or 2 into it and boost it, prob make 300whp easily and have a engine capable of 350-400ish( these are all very vague estimates lol, but somewhat true)

i just rebuild the bottom end of my D16Y8. the #1 rod bearing were gone and it started to walk one of the main bearing. it was a pretty significant knock. i replaced the bearing and polished the crank. it only took me maybe 2 hours to do the job. i am pretty skilled with mechanics so it wasnt a problem with me. but i think almost anyone can do that job

im actually doing this to mine right now. its a d16z6 with a y8 head. i think i spent like 180 just on the crank kit with bearings. and might as well change the piston rings or pistons....

Since its out of the car, put it on an engine stand, drain the oil, take the pan off and investigate.
