codes 8 and 9, car shutting off intermittently
i replaced the ignition coil a about a month ago when the car died on me and cranked but didnt start, it fixed the problem for a while, but the code started throwing 8 and 9 again and now its dieing intermitently again, i need to know if i have the ignition coil warranteed, and replace the ignition control module as well, would this be similar to re-building the distributor, its 40 dollars to replace the icm and warranty the coil, but its 180 to replace the whole distributor, and i dont have 180 dollars right now

Re: codes 8 and 9, car shutting off intermittently
What car?
Codes 8 and 9 are thrown because there is a problem in the circuits for two of the three distributor sensors, not the coil or ICM. Click the CEL sticky at the top. If the resistance of those two sensors are out of spec, then replace the distributor housing (keep your new coil).

its a 92 civic dx 1.5, so your saying the wiring between the internal parts, and the connector on the outside of the distributor is the main suspect, cause the wiring seems to be ok, i have done voltage drops, and ohm'ed the wiring from their sources to the connector, so im pretty sure the only electrical components in the distributor are the coil, and the icm, does this sound right, this is why im wondering what the main cause of this code is normally.
