brake lights not working
92 eg6.... checked bulbs they were fine, replaced them anyways. now im looking at the brake switch. it seems to engage but i've lost the clicking noise it makes which leads me here. before i buy a new switch i wanted to know if there were any other possibilities, either the fuse or something else. whats weird is i replaced the drivers side front wheel bearing yesterday which is when my lights cut out. tail lights, turn signals all work.

Re: brake lights not working
the horn hasn't worked for months...i thought that was due to my dash harness being hacked to **** when i got it, also leading to no clock or stereo. and yes i did check my fuses there are 3 20's in the middle of the bottom row that are showing no power. the rest are fine. im looking through the service manual now to find out what they are

Re: brake lights not working
yes. i checked the voltage on both tabs and the switch when i replaced it this morning. could it be a ground?

Re: brake lights not working
it has voltage at both tabs and at the switch. i did read somewhere that the cruise control could play a factor. i took the car around the block about an hr or so ago and put the cruise on, it turns off when pedal is depressed

Re: brake lights not working
As you have cruise, the next question is did you probe for voltage on the power wire for the brake lights? Which specific pins in the switch connector have voltage?

Re: brake lights not working
the power wire has voltage. it read at 13.84 could that be the problem? also i tested a and b. on the connector. top 2

Re: brake lights not working
Good. With brake pedal pressed down, now check whether voltage reaches the Grn/Wht wire terminal at each brake light bulb receptacle.
Also run power and ground wires from the battery posts to the horns to see whether they sound.

Re: brake lights not working
the most i would get is from .8-3.0 but no lights. the horn doesn't work either. i think its actually broken.

Re: brake lights not working
The horn is broken. Replace it.
What did you use for ground in your voltage test in the receptacles? Compare the metal chassis versus the brake light ground wire. If both grounds yield low/no voltage, then the Grn/Wht wire running between the brake pedal switch and the rear receptacle is broken. You can either locate the break and fix it, or run a new wire.

Re: brake lights not working
same results. also pulled the interior quarter panel out and traced the wire to the switch and there is no frays or shorts. there is just no power through that wire. but there is power at the switch terminal. confused...

Re: brake lights not working
Does voltage reach the Grn/Wht wire at the point where the connectors link the dash and floor harnesses? The general strategy would be to test for voltage on the wire at points close to the switch and then to move farther away until no/low voltage is detected. That should help pinpoint the break.
