Bad Alternator?
I have an odd whining noise at idle that gets progressively worse as I rev the engine up.
I tested the battery voltage with both the engine off and at idle and got a reading of 12.5 both times. With the A/C, stereo, high beams and hazards on, I got a reading of 11.5.
Does that confirm a bad alternator?

Re: Bad Alternator?
2 easy options here..
Option 1- Take your car to the nearest AutoZone, Advance Auto, O'Reilley's, etc.., and have them perform a FREE alternator test.
Option 2- If you choose not to go with option 1, or for some reason can not.. Start and run your car. Disconnect your battery while the engine is running. If it dies, you're alternator is bad. Now.. I am not entirely sure if that particular trick works well, if at all, for anything other than a dead or near dead alternator.
