I have changed, my plugs, checked my plug wires, still no difference. Had a friend who is a mechanic and he said to go ahead and pull the head off and get it machined, put new gaskit kit on it and have the valves cleaned and adjusted. I was hoping there was an easier fix other then pulling the head off. Any ideas?

Pull the head because you have a miss? Your "friend who is a mechanic" is a ******* idiot. Do a compression test.

Ok. I can rent a compression tester from autozone, what's the best way to do it. I have never done it before? I read bump it over about 5 times then check it?

I do know that my head gasket is leaking a little, but it's not a blown head gasket .. no white smoke or coffee like oil. But it does need replacing. The engine has 230k so I was gonna replace all the gaskets bc it probably needs it anyway

If your head gasket is leaking, it's blown. There is no "well kind of" when it comes to head gaskets. You should also go re-read the rules sticky. All relevant information is required. A blown head gasket is certainly relevant to a misfire.

Ok thanks bud sorry for the confusion, might as well check out some other things while I have the head off and replace the head gasket.

Since you are new to automotive mechanical things, I would recommend taking it to a reputable shop in your area

Yea I was thinking the same thing, but I want to be able to do my own work and if I just always take it to shop I will never learn anything. This is just a project car I got in a trade. I have a dd. Thanks for the input

Before you go ripping the head off, go a proper compression and leakdown test. The compression test will confirm that there is a problem, and the leakdown test will tell you where the problem is coming from. If you take the head off without doing a leakdown test, you'll only be guessing.

Ok thanks for the info guys I will do a leakdown test and compression test tom and go from there. I have a friend that is coming over to help me so I don't screw anything up lol. I will post back when I figure something out. Thanks for the helpful info. Fingers crossed!

Also, if you check my build thread, I have a simplified "how to" for a functional, if not exact, leak-down test. The %'s don't really matter. What matters for you is where it's leaking from.
