98 civic cranks no start

98 civic cranks no start
i have a 98 civic lx
and my grand father 99 civic ex.
couple of weeks ago
his civic had(still has) the same problem it was running great , but all of a suden one morning it didnt start . would crank but no go.
so i tested coil with ohm meter and it was good . spark is white .
so i check if fuel pump gives pressure (it makes sound when u put ignition on)
and i unscrewed bolt on fuel fillter(dirty way) it squirted a lot .
so i just left it until it gets warmer .(he doesnt really need it).
98 civic lx ,so yesterday morning i go to my garage and start mine , same thing it will crank but wont start.
changed spark plug , swaped for a different distributor both have good spark.
changed fuel filter , fuel pressure regulator.
tested wires with ohm meter with in specs .
heres wired part , when i crank it wont start. when i unplug injector power clips and crank it kinda starts and then shut offs.
what can you guys recommend

Re: 98 civic cranks no start
As long as all four of em are wet and not bone dry you can tell, I had a couple of injectors not working on mine and I had power to the injectors but no spray= no start.
Right off the top of my head I would check timing marks, If I had messed with the plug wires maybe I could have gotten them mixed up.
But if you have spark and fuel then the other thing that might be missing is compression.
I would see what my compression looks like in the cylinders.
Could it be that too much fuel is going into the cylinders from an injector/s not making it run.
Any chance that you got some rotten fuel--I would put some high octane fuel just in case.
Any chance that you might have gotten ffft up fuel.

i was thinking about too much fuel as well ,because when i disconnect power to injectors it kinda starts but shuts off ofcourse.
as for fuel i always tank at my local costco , and couple of my family members , never had a problem .
i was thinking that fuel is bad but i dont know.
i was changing valve gasket month ago , i check timing belt was like brand new , clean no wear and tears . could timing sliped ? (frustrated)

my 1996 civic did the same thing, it would crank on and i could get it on after a min or 2 then it wrmed up and ran normal,it was my coolant temp sensor, i have no idea why it was that

PGMFI main relay,
Coil/Ignitor,
Ignition switch,
ECU power/grounds (faulty connection, compromised wiring)

Use this helpfull resourse in determining what the problem is.

spark is bright white , fuel pump primes , spark get wet ,
main relay gives three clicks ( tested with volt meter as well)
test injectors input with light (each gets a voltage)just grabed different compressin gauge
1 90 lbs per sqinch
2 60
3 80
4 90
is this bad ?
Tested with throttle fully open all spark plugs off .

Re: 98 civic cranks no start
yes that's bad however I'd imagine that even with such low compression numbers, the car should still be able to run, no? Maybe take some pictures of the spark plugs...? Btw so you're saying that when you're cranking the engine with the plugs inside and then take them out, the plugs smell like fuel?
Try the test again, do a wet and dry test... Might want to rent another tester just to be sure because this very likely could mean your engine is toast.

Re: 98 civic cranks no start
seen that yu can drop some oil inside of the 2 cilynder to see if the compression rise alil more they low because the engine is cold when yu do a compression test usually to get the exact compression suppost to be on normal temperature but since yu cant do it cus the car doesnt start... one question do yu try to give gas when the car is cranking? so see maybe it will fire?

so while doing compression some **** flew from plugs holes. so it might be extra fuel or something.
so summary i changed fuel filter , pressure regulator , spark plugs , spark plug wires.
so basically do a scheduled tune up.
Thanks a lot guys .
