HELP! 96 EX INTAKE MANI SWAP ON 99 DX IDLES ROUGH WITH IACV CODE 14
K I SWAPPED A 96 EX INTAKE MANIFOLD INTO MY CAR, BUT USED THE DX THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE IT HAS THE 3 WIRE IACV ON IT. IM USING A STOCK DX HARNESS WHICH HAS THE 3 WIRE CLIP FOR MY STOCK IACV. I ALSO PLUGGED UP THE HOLES IN THE BACK OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WHEN I REMOVED THE EX IACV, BUT THE CAR STILL IDLES VERY ROUGH. ON START IT REVS AL THE WAY PAST 3000 RPM FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN DROPS THEN IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO I THINK PAST 2500 RPM THEN BACK DOWN (i cant tell cuz i have the stock dx cluster with no tack). THE HOLE IN THE THROTTLE BODY BEFORE THE THROTTLE PLATE SEEMS TO BE ALWAYS OPEN. HOW DO I SHUT IT?
I ALREADY TRIED CLEANING THE IACV.
MY IACV WORKS BECAUSE IM USING MY STOCK ONE AND IT WAS WORKING FINE BEFORE I SWAPPED MANIFOLD.
ALREADY TRIED USING THE EX TB WITH 2 WIRE IACV AND REWIRING IT.
TRIED EVERYTHING I FOUND ON THE SEARCH BUT NOTHING FIXED IT.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TEST A 3 WIRE IACV ON THE TB TO SEE IF IT WORKS? OR DIRECTLY WIRE IT TO ECU? ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS? I DONT THINK IT A VACCUUM LEAK IVE CHECKED OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR LEAKS. I AM USING A 96 INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET ON A 96 INTAKE MANIF0LD, BUT 99 DX HEAD... COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM.. DO I NEED A DX INTAKE MANI GASKET?

On the back of the manifold there is a small nipple on the bottom for cruise control. JB weld it shut. You should be using your 3-wire iacv. No need to convert to 2-wire if you are running the stock ecu. Also make sure you used a y7 throttle body gasket instead of a y8 gasket.

Re: (Airbag Club)
where exactly are the small holes on each runner? i dont see em can u send me a pic? is it where the gasket is? what gasket should i be using? also i already plugged up the small vac line on the back of the manifold. seems to me it might be that the iacv on the tb isnt closing...

Re: (Airbag Club)
i had that maniflod at first but i replaced it with a different manifold without that extra top part of the flange because i found that the top part didnt sit on the head.. not sure what year manifold im using now, but i think its a 96. does my 96 IM have those holes on the runners as well

If the manifold has the nipple on top of the flange its a 99-00 and you have those air injection holes he mentioned. If not then you have a 96-98 and don't have to worry about it.

Re: (chowmien)
i dont have that nipple so what could be causing my problem? what can i do to make the hole on the TB iacv part close. i need info on how to wire it directly i guess.. or some way to check if the iacv is still working. i need to wire it to where i can hear it open and close... what wires to the ecu(3 wires)

Re: (i_ridedumped)
Check for vaccum leaks!!! Happened to me when I installed my edelbrock mani with my dx TB (because of the 3 wire IACV)... **** drove me crazy till I found the leak and fixed it...

Why would you ever need to worry about wiring? If you're using your stock Dx harness along with the stock Dx IACV and ECU, then....things are already good to go because thats how they came from the factory.
If you cover up the hole in the throttle body and the idle settles down to where its 'suppose' to be, then your base idle is set to high or you've got a vaccum leak.
Have you messed with either the idle air bypass screw or throttle blade stop screw?

Re: (EE_Chris)
i changed the dx plate to an ex, where the throttle cable mounts to because the dx one is facing the wrong way. where would it leak from there? what is the throttle blade stop srew?

Re: (i_ridedumped)
The rotor that the throttle cable attaches to has to stop short because if it didn't, the butterfly would round out the throttle body bore allowing a continuous vaccum leak. Now, this throttle blade stop screw is set from the factory - this same screw also adjusts the TPS voltage because it is connected to the same shaft.
Have you tried spaying some carb cleaner around areas to notice if the idle chages at all?

this happened to me once and it was because my sensors were mixed up. i believe it was the iacv and the iat sensors. u can try that. but this was a b20vtec not a d series.

Re: (EE_Chris)
also is your throttle cable adjusted correctly? can you lower the idle by pulling up on the gas pedal? sounds stupid but i actually did this before.
you may want to take the time to check your tps voltages to be sure the idle is set correctly...but if you didnt play with the throttle stop screw than it should be fine.
