Default CEL FROM HELL!!! HELP I AM S/C'D

I have had the s/c for about a month and a half. i have a cel that come on and off every once in a while(about 500 miles) and it always gives the same code: P0172(too rich bank one). I just got my car dynoed to confirm this too rich problem and to my surprise the tech said my car is way too lean. The read out he gave was 15.1 (from a pipe sniffer. I do not have wideband installed) . I was speechless cause I thought I was rich not to mention if i was that lean my car sould have blew up by now!!!

I did the install myself
no problem
no parts left over
FPR moddified and FP is correct
reflash is working like it should

All fingers point to a bad o2 sensor for the cel but what can I do about the too lean issue. One could say that being that I had the cel the ECU could have been trying to offset and that was/is why I am lean.

Please help! This is the only issue that I have. The car runs good and has an @$$ of power but I can't stand that CEL and the thought of being to lean on a boosted car.

If anyone needs to know, my mods are:

Engine:
a. ComptechUSA stage 1 supercharger
b. HONDATA ECU re-flash/intake manifold spacer(1/4)
c. Injen RD Cold Air Intake w/MR technology
d. DC Sports 4-2-1 race Header w/non-foulers
e. Skunk2 70MM Mega power Header back Exhaust
f. Throttle body bypass kit/spacer(1/4)
g. HAMP high pressure oil filter
h. Royal Purple oil, fluid, and coolant additive
i. GREDDY 9MM oil catch tank
j. P2R liquid filled fuel pressure gauge

Drivetrain/Transmission:
a. CorSportUSA aluminum shifter cable/base bushings
b. Comptech short shifter
c. Skunk2 counter weighted **** ****

I used to work for toyota anytime we had a p0172 it meant it needed a new o2 sensor. It most likely needs the first sensor but I would just put both in to be on the safe side. As for the A/F ratio it would look like that with a bad O2 sensor.

replace your o2 sensor. then see what happens.

my o2 sensor went bad on my other car and my a/f readings went extremely rich.
replaced the sensor and all was good.

you boosted without a wideband gauge? oh wow... lucky you found out in time. in all honesty, that shouldve been one of your most important purchases bc it tells you if your cars going to go BOOM or not. plus, it helps tune your car

I was until I found out there is nothing to tune. Comtech uses HONDATA so I really can't do anything but bolt on and go. Did not think my thoughts through to conclusion though cause now I'm stuck with a problem and now I need to get these gauges that I wrote off two months ago.

To actually answer your question, the reason you are getting a CEL is most likely because you removed your Catalytic Converter

The reflash for the Comptech SC was programmed to use a Catalytic Converter. Running a DC race header with no Cat will cause you to run to lean. Even running a DC race header and a high flow Catalytic Converter will most likely cause a CEL. If you researched the supercharger before installing it, you would have discovered that the optimum set-up is a Comptech Header with a stock Catalytic Converter for the stage I.

Until some type of programmable fuel tuning is available, you run the risk of detonation by running too lean. I know of at least one person who has blown their motor because of this.

You also need to run a wide band O2 sensor and your air/fuel mixture should be running around 11.5 to 12 under power. On idle and general cursing, it should run around 14.6. If your running higher than 12 under power, then your taking a big risk.

Good luck

I felt that I did do my share of researching even before I bought the DCRH. Their are several people who have DCRH and CTSC with no problems. This is why I think whatever I am experiencing is isolated to my Si. I have narrowed it down to my o2 sensor. I have been back and forth with Comptech and the last thing for me to test is the o2. I will get a data stream or freeze frame of o2 at the time of the fault and see if their is a spike in A/F. That (to me) would be an indecation that that their is an issue with the sensor. I am going to by buddy at honda tomorrow to test the theory. Will update tomorrow.

sounds good. keep us updated

but no matter the outcome, you really should (i would say, must) run a wideband o2 sensor.

Yes i agree a wide band is a must.

Got rid of my too rich bank one problem. However I have another cel. It was CAT-efficency on bank 2. Took out both sensor and cleaned them and put them back. Cleared the code and now will see what happens.

Almost there. Will let you knwo this weekend what happens.
