Default Engine running rich?

I have lots of grey smoke coming from my exhaust. I think it is running rich because of the smell. I ran a compression test and it was running between 195-200psi in all four cylinders. So its not the head gasket or piston rings. When i start the car the CEL is not on but after about 15 minutes of driving it is. I jumped the service connecter and it flashed no code. What the hell is wrong with my car??!

i used to have that problem, my cel would appear right when the car hit operating temp. I could get the cel code though. For me, it was from running too rich, and the cel was the o2.

Im in the same boat, what did you do to solve the problem and get the car to run at the right a/f ratio? Was it a faulty 0s sensor or was the sensor properly reading a rich condition?

i thuoght it was a bad o2 at first, but i never replaced it. I swapped an H into an eg, and put in a walbro 255. i think that was the cause of the prob in the first place for me. I ended up getting a b&m fpr and modding it to lower fuel pressure. that took away the cel, then I got a diff chip for my p28 that leaned it out even more.

with my test pipe in place, enough to make my friends behind me cough on the unburnt gas when I hit vtec. it was bad.

Anyone know exactly what the stock fuel pressure is supposed to be set at? Isn't it like 43? I put an H22A4 in my EG and a walbro 255 and its a little over 55. Looks like I have the same problem here. Need to turn it down a bit apparently.

the fuel pressure depends on which obd you are. the obd1 (345 cc) and obd2 (290 cc) injectors are diff. If you are obd1, 55 psi is high, i'm running 42 psi at WOT now. I know obd2 needs higher pressure, but I'm not sure exactly what it is.

I do have the H22A4 motor, but I have the OBD1 conversion(OBD1 wiring and Intake manifold, and ECU) Should I adjust it like the OBD1?

adjust it for the injectors. if obd1 injectors, run between 40 and 45 psi at WOT.

Unburnt fuel is a misfire. If you smell gasoline, then it's a misfire. If you're running rich it's partially burnt fuel which results in high carbon monoxide. You can't see, taste, or smell carbon monoxide so you really can't really diagnose a rich mixture unless you run an exhaust analyzer on it. You can run so rich that it misfires in which case you would smell gasoline, but you can also run so lean it misfires and you'd smell gas. If there's no combustion, then what goes in goes out.

o.k. im also getting a back fire on downrevs from higher rpm. What is that from. it might be oil that im burning but piston rings= low compression dont they, and my compression is fine. So what now?
