08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
I lost my key and got a replacement cut. Then I called the dealer for the 5 digit temporary code to allow me to drive the vehicle to the dealer to program the immobilizer. My problem is I cant get the sequence to work. Does anyone know if I need more than just the replacement key to enter the code to make it start? Also the dealer told me that 2 5 digit codes were listed for my VIN and he hadnt seen that before. I tried them both but still get the flashing key symbol in the cluster and no start. Any help out there?
Thanks
EDIT: Read on another thread (if thats what you want to call it...looked more like a %#&$^ swinging contest to me) where some said you are supposed to use the foot brake and some said use the hand brake. The dealer told me to use the hand brake and wait each time until the brake light on the dash had turned out before entering another digit. Nothing works though. Still looking for advise before calling in the tow truck.
Thanks Again.

The 5-digit code is for the radio, it has NOTHING to do with starting the car. If the key is not programmed to that car, it's not gonna work until it's programmed.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
Well I read the exact same instructions the Honda guy told me to do on an online repair place and these instructions were to start the car to allow me to drive to my house to get a spare key if I had one or to drive to a Honda dealer so that they could program the Immobilizer. Maybe one set of the 5 digit numbers is for the radio but I believe the other set (whichever it is) is to temporarily start the car. My problem is neither started the car. The key symbol in the instrument cluster did stop flashing as it says it will do on the online instructions, but it would not start.

As I understand it, the Brake Code procedure is a temporary key programming which allows you to get somewhere in an emergency until you can get the dealer to do an actual permanent programming.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
It called an Immobilizer brake code. You must do it correctly and within the allotted time.
Procedure:
1. Use an appropriate key blank and a suitable key cutter to cut a temporary ignition key. Refer to the special tools catalog for available cutting machines.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Insert the temporary key into the ignition switch.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait for the brake system indicator bulb check to complete.
5. Enter the first digit of the Immobilizer Brake Code by setting and releasing the parking brake that number of times within 30 seconds. For example, if the first digit is four, set and release the parking brake four times.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). (This enters the digit into the ECM/PCM.)
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), set and release the parking brake the appropriate number of times, and turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to enter the second, third, fourth, and fifth digits.
NOTE: When you turn the ignition switch to ON (II), the immobilizer system indicator does not blink but stays on. The immobilizer system indicator stays on even when the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).
8. After you enter the fifth digit and turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), the immobilizer system indicator blinks three times and then goes off. You can now start the engine with the temporary key.
NOTE: This procedure is only a temporary fix.
When you start the engine with the temporary key, the immobilizer system indicator comes on and stays on while the engine is running. Also, when you turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), the indicator does not blink five times as it normally would.
9. Start the engine within 10 minutes or you must repeat this procedure entirely.

Thats the one I missed. I didnt turn it back to lock and wait for the 3 blinks. Cant wait to try it. Probably saved me a hefty tow bill to the dealer.
Thanks Much!

No problem. Just wanted to see you could get home safely and without paying too much. So, have you been stranded for hours now, since your first post states 1:15PM?

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
No I got a ride home but hate the thought of leaving my car "out there" for anyone to do what they want to it. If I would have been actually stranded, I would have gone ahead and made the call to the tow truck.
I just got the car and love it so far. Is an 08 EX coupe with only 17K miles. Anything you can recommend me doing to it to "spruce it up"? Or anything that I NEED to do soon?

Well, I'm no longer into modifying my cars anymore, so, I can't give you any good advice on what's the latest for a Civic. I currently own a 09 Accord EX and love it too.
There shouldn't be anything you need immediately for your car in terms of service, as long as you get regular oil changes. I would change the air cabin filter though. When I pulled mines out at 15,000 miles, it was already filthy. This place sells them for a good price, and they are the same as what Honda dealers stock.

I'll post the general instructions to change the air cabin filter in a few minutes.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
Micron Air makes the air cabin filters that Honda uses. This a link to their site for the instructions. Although the actual pdf says for Accord, it is pretty much the same for the Civic.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
Do you know of anywhere online where I can find out what options my car has by the VIN#? Just curious as to what all it does have as I did not get an owners manual. Have downloaded the online owners manual but it still doesnt tell me what the car has. For instance, I have the sound system that says "Premium Sound" and I don't know if thats the best there is or there is an factory upgrade.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
This was the Honda brochure for your car:
http://automobiles.honda.com/images/...e-brochure.pdf
If you ever need to know recall info., etc., Honda has an owner's link:
https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login....Fprod_home.asp
If your car didn't already have the navigation with XM satellite radio, then the only upgrade to your premium sound system may possibly be XM satellite radio from the handa-accesories link I posted above.

Re: 08 Civic Coupe-Lost Key
Just an update that might help someone else. I tried the "Brake Code" method every way possible and it would go into the mode but the light on the dash with the key would not go out. I found a mobile locksmith that had everything in his truck, which was huge van equipped with at least 5 key machines and a couple computers, and he programmed the Immobilizer/Key in about 5 minutes. Charge was $65.
