Default Odd Idle...

I searched...nothing came up. Also i'm not a civic guy. This is for my sisters car, long distance. I'm just trying to help her over the phone any input would be a great help.

Its an '01 Civic LX 5 speed.

One she lives in Chicago, so its cold lately, especially when the problem started. (could play a factor) She lets the car warm up as usual and while she is driving she will come to a stop and push the clutch in obviously...and the idle will jump up usually to about 1500 hang for a sec or two before it drops to normal. She says its not very consistent, as in doesn't happen every time she stops but obviously often enough for her to notice something.

I went through some obvious things with her like making sure there was no CEL, made sure her temp gauge was still normal, asked her if her heater was still working, how the car was running otherwise. Nothing else seems different.

My next guess maybe a TPS or something...what can you guys tell me?

Thanks

i wanna help you ease your mind. i have an '03 civic lx automatic and my car has a ton of problems like this, the exact same. i'll be at idle and my car has actually been up over 3000rpm before, while in park. even when i drive its been over 2000 and pulling me at 10mph without even touching the accelerator. my mechanic is looking for a new throttle body to try and fix that, most likely because it is the culprit. hopefully that helps you.

I doubt it will be of much use, considering this thread is over a year old.
