surging idle.....need help QUICK!!!
ok, i just installed a turbo about a week ago and i am having a problem. I got it tuned, it ran great, didnt have a surging idle, or sputter or anyhting like that......now i am having problems.
It will idle fine sometimes, mostly on a fresh start.....not a hot motor, but anyways, it's starting this surging idle thing, and i have messed with vac lines, it's only a 100 rpm surge, but it feels like it's gonna die, and lots of times, i'll feather the gas to keep it running.....
i dont know..it's driving me crazy, it's died once, but with the a/c on.......it seems like it's idled like this after a few times of driving in the rain. it rained like the first 3 days i drove it,and i was driving it alot......any input on what to do..i dont know.... no CEL's, it drives fine..just not idling.....
i dont have a wideband to check AF at idle...but something i did notice is that when i am looking at the narrowband, at idle when it's acting up, it never moves toward rich AT ALL.......when it's idling right, it'll sweep back and forth....so is it a lean condition? a narrowband is not the right way to read AF's but this just popped into my head......if it's right at idle, it's gonna pick up some fuel at idle and pop the narrowband over some towards rich isn't it?....ANY ideas?!??!?!

Ignore the narrowband completely.
Your problem is warm idle revlimit... you have a revlimit of 12-1300 or so when TPS indicated closed and coolant temps are over 160-ish. A vacuum leak of some naturewill cause you to hit this revlimit, fuel cut occurs for a second, rpms drop, and then surge back up when the ECU turns the injectors back on.
You probably have air in your TB, this causes the IACV to act stupid and causes most of the small rpm fluctuations. Check coolant level and bleed the system if your engine is equipped with a bleeder.
If that doesn't work, try fiddling the air bypass screw on the TB, and failling that the throttle stop on the TB.

Possible EACV valve or Fast idle valve. Here's a good read on FITV and EACV valves and how they work.

umm....can i get any other opinions on what it could be or something. just looking for ideas......i'll prolly get a wideband o2 and start from there....but any other ideas before i drop the cash on one.....gonnaget it anyways, but just looking for osme quick fixes for now......
i would always ask my friend the same question and all he ever asked is it running good/ to expetation and i would answer yes so he just respondended its a honda thing don't worry abt it. he always told me to epect the un expected out of a turbo honda.
umm.it's not running to expectation.....i dont call a sputtering sying idle.......well.....running......but ANYWAYS, any other ideas from some more experienced people?......best bet be to get a chip burner and a wideband 02 to correct this problem?
and any other ideas as well...

You're not going to get anyone more experienced in either Honduhs, or how a Honduh ECU works, to give you the time of day, much less answer a tech question for you.
Surging idle on a Honduh is caused by a vacuum leak, period. The IACV (by way of air in the TB coolant lines) and FIT-V are the two most frequent causes of Honduh idle dysfunction, and since you don't have a surge of 1000+ rpms the FIT-V is out.

I love when you tell people the answer and they completely ignore it and ask for more advice. If you dont want to take good advice then dont ask for help.

Amen.
Amen.
i'm not saying that you were wrong...i just dont have time to go check the car for 1 or 2 things, find out that's not it, then come back and ask for more help.....i just need a few things that i can try...i dont have a garage..i live in an apartment..i gotta take the tools out, work on it, put the tools back up so they dont get stolen, wait for another reply, take the tools back out, work again, then put them back up.......over and over again....it's a bitch..i have checked the IACV BTW, and it is now clean as can be, but still surges.......it's really bad ecasue it only surges half of the time at idle......and this morning i was coming back from school, and it ALMOST died, i had to give it gas.....it's like there is something shutting completely on and off......should i cover the holes inside the throttle body and see if it's like a faulty but clean IACV?
sorry for the long post

You're complaining about popping your hood with a screwdriver in your hand???? Come on dude. Bleed your coolant and adjust the idle screw. You don't need a wideband to fix your idle. Add some timing and screw with your EMS to fix it if the things already suggested don't work.
lol, no it's take out all the socket stuff from the trunk of my car, and find wrenches in the storage area by the spare tire.......all that crap......
anyways, yeah i dont have a chip burner or a wideband yet....i have tried to adjust the idle screw......it really doesnt matter what i adjust it to....i mean i bring the idle up higher, and what ever it is, just kicked in and nearly killed the engine today, but I THINK it was only when the car came to a complete stop that it kicked in and nearly killed it........it still could be the IACV i guess????.....
i just dont wanna drop like 180 at advance auto for the damn thing....can i unplug it when it's doing the surging idle and see if that stops it....to tell if that's what it is?

well....guys i tried working on oth the FITV and the IACV, both seem to e working right, BUT, still to no avail, the solution still has not been found.....what else could it be......other than the tuners fault..i'd rather not make another trip there...it was a 200 mile trip to get it there...and i dont feel like limping a car 200 miles..lol.........im pretty set on gettin a chip burner, and a wideband........that seems like my ONLY option now......just need some more input as to what it could be
OH, BTW, when i turn ac on, the vac turns to about 17 to 18 psi, and when the ac is off i am gettin about 23 psi of vac...and this is all at the same idle speed.....any ideas, or is this normal..im just trying to see if i can find ANYTHING that might seem wierd......lol.......any ideas? and anything else to look for?

How is a small idle quirk limping a car?
WTF does the IACV's condition have to do with a Honduh idle problem caused by a vacuum leak? Honduh IACV *never* get carboned up and cause idle problems themselves.
Bleed your goddamn coolant already.

i dont have a voltmeter, not yet anyways...gonna have access to one like at 8 pm tonight...ive unplugged the IAC and the idle dropped, and plugged it back in, and it brought the idle back up........what kinda numbers should i look for on the TPS?
i appreciate the help man, if you think of anything else, let me know, and that goes for everyone else too! thanks guys!

ive had the same problem for maybe a good 6 months maybe... the surging is minimal maybe 500 now occasionally but the real problemo comes when i give a minimal amount of throttle and it starts surging until i push thru it.. not a big deal but it makes me ride my clutch if i dont wanna snap my neck off .. i doubt it if its an iac.. when i first got it i bought one tried it didnt work and returned it.. i dont think i have any leaks and coolant should be fine.. im not positive but i think there might be a break in the wire to the sensor somewhere..
would a vac leak or coolant bubble throw a code?
