I recently was sold for dirt cheap a 2001 civic LX d17a1 engine model. with 365k miles on it. clearly crank plug and front and rear main seals are leaking most likely most the oils from oil pan gasket, but also my timing and such needs done. its clearly not had an oil change in a few years.. as its like road tar.
BUT my big question is would it be smarter to just replace all seals timing water pump clutch and have my transmission serviced and all that tune up jazz after.
OR
Would it be smarter to crate motor another d17a1 and just swap it right over at a mechanics shop.
Since i am not knowledgeable enough to do that type of thing.

Considering you can pick up a running D17A1 for roughly $300, I wouldn't bother tearing one apart. They're throw-away engines, to be honest.

I was planning on purchasing a crate motor from jdmcalifornia or something. so it has a short warranty and with a crate my shop will also give me warranty seeing as its a "pre-inspected, and compression tested" engine.
But my bigger questions is, for a daily with exhaust system and some small slight top dollar love such as injectors and filters pumps and what have you. Would it be worth it? I think it would but im just asking because i am very novice with vehicles and mechanical stuff.
My main mechanic said the motor is garbage just put it on a stand get him a kit and he'll rebuild it or i can learn doing it and if its done right ill have a spare.

As I said im just daily driving it about 60 miles both ways monday-friday. So long as itll keep going with my OCD self taking care of it with oil changes and tune ups. I just wanna ensure itll CRUISE for a good while. so i can save to get ecu and harness and eventually B swap it.
The shell is in immaculate condition. so I wanna put something in it to save up for a newer better swap.

Sounds like a plan and an opportunity for you to learn a lot. These are decent little cars to learn the basics on.
