05 Accord Acceleration issues
Hi,
Needed some advice on acceleration problems I have been having on my car.
- 05 Accord SE Coupe with ~65K miles (Automatic transmission, 4 cylinder)
- New throttle body (OEM part) was installed two years ago since old one was an aftermarket adjustable TPS and made the car buckle/jerk a lot. Don't notice any problems anymore other than during startup braking as listed below.
- Regular oil changes done, brake fluid replaced recently, tires are in very good condition, new brakes installed a month ago
- Check engine light is not on
Recently, I have noticed that the car will not accelerate even when I keep pushing the gas pedal. Typically happens at around 50 to 60 mph marker (the mph needle will just stall at one location and not move). I have to tap the brake lightly a couple of times or let the car coast down without giving it any gas (it kind of releases whatever is holding the car from accelerating and releases the mph needle). I then accelerate the car again and it will go higher than 60 mph. Keeps happening often (not every time though). My gas mileage is lower which confirms that something is happening.
Also, the car jerks the first couple of times when i use the brake but then works fine.
Does any of this sound like the transmission problems that Accords have had or is this completely different issue? Please advice what I can do to find out the cause and fix the problem.
Thanks

Re: 05 Accord Acceleration issues
Yes, the engine rpm goes up when I accelerate but I don't notice any downshift. Regular driving, the rpm needle is around 2.25 rpm at 60 mph. When the car does not accelerate and I am still giving it more gas, the rpm number starts climbing towards 3 rpm but speed is still stuck at 60 mph.

Bad sign. Your transmission is probably slipping. Have you checked the fluid level (check it with engine off)? If the fluid level is low, you might have a chance. You would have to get it checked out by a professional, but it doesn't look good.

Sorry for the late reply as I was traveling. I haven't checked the transmission fluid levels yet but will do so this weekend. Thank you for your responses.
