No. Changing your oil at the recommended intervils will make sure that your engine will live a very long time.

i think what he wants to ask is... is 86000 miles high enough to consider changing oil to a high mileage type synthetic.
good question... not sure.
im at 81000 and 2k miles till my next oil change.

Re: Switch to synthetic Oil at 86,000 miles?? (specbb6)
because synthetic oil will not increase the life of the motor and it would be a waste of cash. If honda says change the oil every 7.5K on the car then that is when I would change the oil using an oil that meets or exceeds honda's recommendation.
80K isnt much for a Honda motor becase they are built to better specs than american ones. As long as you change the oil at the right intervils and use a quality motor oil, you should be just fine as long as there are no major problems in the motor....
There are people out there that have 400K+ on their cars using only "regular" motor oil................

Honda recomends 5w-30 for most models, unless your average air teprature is always in the triple digits. Residents of death valley and other freakishly hot locations should use 10w-30

My friend who worked at Miller Honda (Culver City, CA) said he worked on a 90-93 accord which had 540,000 miles on it......original transmission and original engine. And it worked like off the show-room floor to boot. Now THAT is a dedicated automotive owner....to have meticulously kept up on maintenance.
Manufacturer's do say that normal service is ever 7,500 miles...but in all reality...we live in the city...stop and go traffic, short trips, etc. It's all HARD on the engine and requires us (especially los angeles drivers..hehe) to change oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles.
I have, however, heard on one of those Best Motoring DVDs to change the transmission oil at EVERY OIL CHANGE INTERVAL. Isn't that, though..overkill?
