should i change over to synthetic oil?
i have a fully built H22 motor with 1700 miles on it. should i switch to synthetic oil or stay with regular oil?

If it's a freshly rebuilt motor, I would go synthetic. You're supposed to run conventional motor oil for the first 1000 miles anyways to break it in, then do the switch to synthetic. However, don't do it if you don't want to be spending over $25 for every oil change.

I like Castrol Syntec and Syntec Blend. If you're worried about the switchover (and cost of full synthetic @ $4+ /quart), try the partial synthetic (syntec blend).
For every person that praises high dollar oil, there is someone else who just says to change your oil more frequently (and use decent oil/filter).

If you go with the Castrol, look around at Pep Boys, wal mart, etc. for 5 qt jugs of both kinds. I picked up the 5qt. Syntec Blend for $9.83 from wal mart.

if you put synthetic oil into an engine that ran conv.oil in it..the two diff.oils react and cause some clogging of oil ports and setup behind your rings worst then carbon deposts.go buy some reg.tranny oil and some synthetic tranny oil..pour both into a pot together and heat with torch or very hot flame and stir them a bit...instant peanut butter turn thick enough to hold in your hand now try it with the engine oil and you'll see what im talking about.spent whole day in auto class learning this last month.

Personally, I would use a partial synthetic blend (mobil 1 synth blend?) for about 300 more miles, then switch to full synthetic. I've heard only good things about Mobil 1 full synthetic, and Castrol Syntec (full synthetic)... Supposedly the Pennzoil full synthetic is really good too - but I heard that pennzoil oils leave tons of buildup.
Either way, a fully synthetic motor oil will help out big time. I'll bet you'll even notice a gas mileage increase.
