Default new motor or new head gasket

My car needs a new head gasket for my jdm b16 pr3-2. I found a b16 replacement for a 2000 civic si. Do u think I should buy the head and block or just replace my head gasket. I'm so nervous about this I need some really good advice. Also a good Honda mechanic in lake Charles, la.

Head gaskets are easy on B series engines, so it's worth fixing IF the motor is in otherwise good condition. If there are other engine problems, a ton of miles, driven a long time with the bad headgasket, then you'd be better off just replacing it with a new longblock.

taking cams out are almost as easy as a 350 just take a hand full of bolts out and lift the cams out where a v-block you slide em out

There are no replaceable cam bearings on these engines. If the cam journals are screwed up you need a new head (rare). If they're not leaking, I'd personally leave the valves alone and just have the head milled for flatness.

Follow the manual for torque specs and sequences and there's nothing to worry about.
