legend vs. accord v6 calipers
I was looking through the archives today trying to find out how different the braking force was for the accord v6 caliper vs. legend caliper(to swap onto a 4cyl. accord). Do any of you guys think there is that significant of a difference? Any feedback from brake swap owners would be greatly appreciated. thanks

A better question would be what is the diameter of the V6 piston and the diameter of the Legend pistons? When I know that, I can give you a precise hypothetic mathematical answer.

The Legend caliper definitely has the capability to apply more pressure, but it's also a few pounds heavier... don't forget that caliper weight goes into your unsprung weight...

Also, there is more fluid being displaced by TWO pistons, thus longer for the master cylinder to travel = squishy brake pedal.

Do you know of anyone that did this conversion and had these problems? Or is it not a big enough difference to affect anything?

i noticed you swapped the v6 rotors onto your 4cyl. accord. how has the stopping improved?

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (cam0693)
hondaautomotive parts shows the 5th gen V6 caliper is the same as the Wagon, so it would be the same as the ITR caliper.
I believe its a single piston, 50-something mm diameter piston. Search for the stock ITR piston size.

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (TypeSH)
I had the Legend calipers on my accord and although I can't compare to the v6 calipers, I definitely was better compared to stock. I also did not have a soft pedal, and that was with the stock master cylinder.

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (cam0693)
I have the accord V6 calipers, brembo blanks for the V6, goodridge lines, Hawk HP+ pads. Obviously I can't give you an unbiased review of just of the calipers but here's what I thought/think...
I thought putting all this crap on would make my car break like a ******* race car.... after having them I can say it does not... but braking is improved and brake fade in nonexistent (thus far).
I wanted to get the Legend calipers because I thought it was cooler. But I did not for several reasons. They are more difficult to find. They are more expensive. In the case that a core is needed you less likely to scam your way out of that one. With the dual piston you run the chance of throwing off your proportioning valve. I found that the V6 and the 4cyl have the same master cyclinder. That's not to say that the V6 and the 4cyl are not proportioned differently. A little research and math and you could figure out the difference between the Legend, V6, and 4cyl calipers. Lastly, installing the Legend calipers would negate my eligibilty to run STS class autocross.
Just get the V6 calipers. Your money is better spent on better brake pads and lines.

I just read another thread on this conversion and someone said that the proportioning valve was not affected. Can you still explain though. Thanks.

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (TouringAccord)
The proportioning IS affected. Its impossible not to have some sort of effect when changing to calipers of a different size.
edit: However, it may be negligable. No one that I know of has done the calculations to show that.

You're asking me to use my brain here... I don't know off the top of my head. Obviously I would have done them already if it was that simple. But there seems to be a need for this info so let me downshift my temperal lobe and I'll get back to you.

True didnt think about that, oh well I will just get the brembo gran turismo kit In all seriousness however I do want to upgrade to a more heavy duty caliper at some point. It's more than likely between the brembo or aem since those seem to be the only two current choices. I just dont like the fact that I have to have a 17" wheel with both of those.

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (KCHybrid)
Understand that all that crap is designed to work together. This master cylinder with that proportioning valve with these calipers. Yes mixing and matching may work but you can't know for sure without doing the proper calculations.
As for the math work, the 'brake' man here at work was out today so I'm not sure what all I need to figure this out. I figure if I find out the proper specs of all the components involved he will be able tell me how to figure all this **** out...
edit: to KC, that's the beauty of the Legend or V6 upgrade. All fits under a stock wheel... but unfortunately we do not know the full ramifications at this point.
edit II: my pedal is not (as) squishy (as it was before). It used to be damn rediculous.

Re: legend vs. accord v6 calipers (Wont be beat)
My brakes were shot to start with. I was planning on rotors, lines and pads, so I figured why not get some kewl noo kalipars wall I'm at it!!!!
edit: and I like the fact that when I'm flying down the highway with a car full of crap I can nail the brakes and warp those sumbitches.

What did the Lengend have in the back, drums or disc's? That would make a difference to whether or not that MC would work with disc's all around wouldn't it.
