Default I've been working on Hondas for years and never seen this. TIMING PROBLEMS! Help!

1992 Accord. Customer brought it to me and after he tried for weeks to get it to run right, it wouldnt.

i found that the timing was way off and the car would only run with the dizzy fully retarded.

i checked cam timing and sure enough, it was off.

installed a new tbelt/waterpump/main seal for the customer, figured it would run perfect, it doesnt.

cam timing is dead on. even if it were off a tooth it still wouldnt be THIS bad.

customer stated they had tried a different ecu AND a different distributor with no luck.

well today, the ignitor went out, so i replaced it and it fired back up. it will only rev up with dizzy all the way against the fire wall, and now it also has an idle surge.

im at my wits end with this thing. anyone have any ideas?

Try resetting the ecu, it might be sending the wrong info.

So it might of went like this

Cams were prob #1
guy replaced ecu
you replaced cams
ecu still thinks cam timing is off
-reset ecu

and by idle surge do you mean the tach is going up and down? or just up

i didnt replace the CAM. single cam f22.

i just set the cam timing like normal and the ignition timing is still way off.

idle surge is up and down.

no vacuum leaks, so no need mentioning that.

anyone else?

or tps or map or a vacuum leak.

the idle surge is the least of my worries, its just added to them.

my main concern is getting this thing to time right.

ttt.

check to see if the rotor is not moving on the shaft have seen a few where the metal tab that holds the rotor on will either be gone or real loose and the rotor will move and effect the timing .
