ignition or relay

ignition or relay
My 1990 accord wont start. The engine cranks but it wont fire up. I spoke to a few people and was told that it is probably the relay or ignition switch. I just need to figure out witch is the culprit. does any body have any suggestions on how I can accomplish that?

Re: ignition or relay
Try starter fluid. If it fires, your not getting fuel(bad fuel pump, clogged injectors). If you smell gas when you keep cranking it, then it could be spark related(bad dizzy, ECU or ignition circuit). If you are getting fuel and spark then i would try replacing the starter solenoid first.

Re: ignition or relay
Take out the ignition switch. Look at the contacts. If they look all burned/torched. That's your issue.
Quick Check:
Turn the key....don't let it turn back all the way. Hold it half way between "on" and "start" if it stays running, then the ignition switch is the issue.
I drove around a little bit holding the key turned, as soon as I let go, the car would shut off. Ignition switch fixed this.
Bronze looking metal parts come out of the green plastic housing. (NEW ONE WAS BLUE) Old Ignition-Switch in pic.
Unclip white part to look at contacts. Mine were fryed.
THIS SPLITS INTO TWO!!!!! Unclip the little plastic tab, pull hard to separate.
The little screw was hard to get to, may require universal joint, or angled screw driver.
Little plastic tab located on top.
Part #12
*note* to install the ignition switch it separates into two pieces, unclip, pull the metal contacts out of the plastic housing. re-install.
Goodluck.
