I have a 2000 V6 accord cpe with 110k. this first happened about 500 miles ago when I was parked in a traffic jam after about an hour. The check engine came on but I though it may have been from sucking in all the exhaust from the rigs..... havent got the code read yet.. Once I opened it up on the highway everything ran fine... Then about 500 miles later, i started it up and the idle was bouncing again from 500 to 2000. It even would go up in drive when the idle got low coasting. After about 4 miles, I floored it and took the rpms up to about 5-6K and its been fine for the last 20 miles... both times this happened I was facing downward on a slight slope.. any thoughts other than cleaning/replacing IAC valve.. Im going to try that first when I get a minute..

You need the code that was produced. A drop in idle speed in a V67 can be attributed to a misfire as well, among other things. Even if the light is not on, provided you have not stupidly disconnected the battery, the code will still be there. Given your limited information it is very hard to help you. You need to tell us more information, like when the problem started, and the last repairs done to the car within the last 6 months etc.

This only happened twice. First time was about 500 miles ago, second time was about 30 miles ago. No work done recently. 1 Coil, timing, and water pump changed about 1-1.5yrs ago.... the check engine light has been on since the first incident but went out today..

The code is still there, get a scanner and get it.

By chance does this seem to happen when re-starting a warm engine - car is at normal op temp, shut it off to do something, 10~20 minutes later you start it up and the "issue" happens?
