F23 tuned to OBD1 running rough @ low RPM's, what to look for?
Got the Honda buggy driveable today, but I have one issue with the engine. It runs like a scalded dog in 5th gear from ~3500 RPM's all the way to redline (well, I only probably got it to 6K rpm's), but the low RPM/idle doesn't do too well. The guy that did the wiring said the IAC will make it run rough (because it is not being used I don't think). He said the OBD1 IAC is a 2 wire, while mine was a 3 wire. He said the only way to change it is to swap the throttle body for a F22 throttle body. I am OK with the low/odd idle, but I need it to run better throughout the RPM range. Planning to go for a test run tomorrow. Any ideas?

the third wire cannot be wired in, not if you plan to keep using a two-wire compatible ECU. i remember seeing recently an adapter to use a two-wire IAC in place of the F23 three-wire. or if you're handy with a drill press and a dremel you can probably make your own. i think that would be the best/most simple route.

I ordered a blacktraxx iacv adapter plate to solve my up comming problem with the iacv. it showed up quick. you can also make an adapter plate with some aluminum pretty easy I assume.

Thanks for the info. The guy that did the wiring/tuning is coming back this evening I think to hook the wideband up to it. I would make an adapter plate, but I don't think it would fit. It already basically rubs my fuel cell now, so making it stick out any further and it wouldn't fit.
Went for a test ride yesterday, after some wheeling we think it is running rich on the bottom end. A Honda guy came by and plugged his Civic ECU in and it ran alot smoother, just had a surging issue. I think if anyone can figure it out it would be the guy I got to do the wiring.
I'll let yall know how it goes, thanks for the help! Starting 1st in the race this coming saturday, hopefully I can keep it there!

He's going to tune it to idle at about 1000rpms, will not have a IACV at all so I will probably eventually ditch it and make a blockoff plate.

yeah you can ditch the valve from what I have read it can cause a rough idle especially when not warmed up from what i have read on others experiences

He came by and tuned it yesterday evening. Went ahead and ditched the IACV and made a blockoff plate for it (it was stuck open). Well, while driving with the wideband hooked up it ran great, he tuned the chip, and now that I think of it, I can't remember if we test drove it after that.
Anyways, tonight I drove it a little and it stumbles alot @ high RPM's, but only seems to when I give it throttle fast, if I rev it slower it does fine. I am wondering now if maybe my fuel filter is causing a problem, but I don't see how it could be, it's huge and off a nextel cup car...
My fuel pump is mounted above the fuel cell, and has to pick up the fuel from the tank. The fuel filter is also above the tank. Think this could be the problem? It's a MSD 2255 pump. It did have trouble priming when the tank was near empty, and had trouble filling up the filter even when it had a few gallons of fuel in it. I would think once it's full it shouldn't have any trouble though... I will probably bypass the filter tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

Just as I suspected, bypassed the fuel pump and the problem went away. Runs great throughout whole RPM range now.
