Drivers Door-Dome Light

Drivers Door-Dome Light
Hi Again,
91 Accord coupe door and dome lights will not operate when you open the driver’s side door. The passenger door and dome light come on when opening the passenger side door but not the light on the driver’s door. I checked the bulb in the driver’s door and it works, the switch in the door jamb appears to be fine but I don’t know how to test or bypass it. Is there something else I should be looking out for? Thanks.

If I open the passenger door the passenger door light and the dome light come on but not the driver’s door light. If I open the driver’s door no lights come on.

Re: Drivers Door-Dome Light
If you open the Driver's door, the dome light and driver's door panel light should come on.
If you open the Passenger door, the dome and passenger door panel light should come on.
Those door panel lights come on only for the door that's open.
As far as testing, I'm not sure if that switch is NO (Normally Open) or NC (Normally Closed). If it's NO, when the door opens, it closes the circuit and the lights come on. Putting a jumper would work. If it's NC, then you could manually 'open' the switch and see if the lights come on. I have a feeling it's NO though.
And sorry for being vague, that's the switch I was referring to. The little plunger like guy that chills about halfway up the jamb.

MuffinMan, you have been very helpful and patient! I understand it must be a challenge for you to try and interpret what we Honda layman are saying when we ask our questions while using incorrect terminology and vague descriptions of the issue we are trying to convey. The assistance from you and others on this forum don’t go unappreciated, I only hope I can pay it forward in some small way.
Thanks again!

Re: Drivers Door-Dome Light
So it ended up being the switch that was at fault. As it turns out it is an NO grounding switch that closes the circuit when the door is opened. A simple fix!
