Apexi WS1 too restrictive?
Here's my setup:
97 Accord LX sedan
94 JDM H22a motor/transmission
Rosko Racing Euro-R IM w/ITR TB Maxbore to 65mm
Skunk2 Pro 1 Cams
Evan's Tuning head package w/5 angle valve job & new seals
Skunk2 titanium valvesprings
Skunk2 titanium retainers
Skunk2 titanium Valves
Skunk2 adjustable cam gears
Hytech Header (authentic)
DSM blue top injectors
AEM fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
3.5" custom intake with BPI flowstack
Greddy timing/balancer belt
Apexi WS1 exhaust system
Exedy stage 1 clutch & lightweight flywheel
Unorthodox Racing Pullies
NGK Plugs/Wires
No a/c, p/s or c/c
H23 Manual Tensioner Swap
Plan on tuning with Hondata S300
I've read quite a bit about the WS2 being restrictive bc of it not being a straight through muffler but I haven't found much about the WS1. My question is, how much hp will I be giving up by running this WS1 exhaust system, which has 2.25" piping, compared to 2.5" piping and some kind of straight through muffler like a Vibrant or Greddy? My other question is, could I cut the muffler close to the inlet and knock out the "wall" then weld it back together? Or would that be pointless? I don't know a whole lot about mufflers & how they work besides what I've read. Any input good or bad is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Apexi WS1 too restrictive?
Here's my setup at the time of the dyno session:
-'96 JDM H22A Engine w/ T2T4 LSD 5spd Trans
-Skunk2 Pro Series cam gears(+3*E,-1*I)
-Skunk2 Pro Series Stage 2 cams
-Skunk2 Pro Series valve springs + spring base kit
-Skunk2 Retainers
-Skunk2 68mm Throttle Body
-Rosko's Thermal 69mm TB gasket
-Rosko's EGR valve block-off plate(EGR Delete)
-Upper Plenum Portmatched(69mm Ported) by Rosko
-VHT Wrinkle Red DIY
-Hytech Replica Header
-Ebay 3" Intake Piping
-2.5" Hi-Flow Cat Converter
-New OEM Honda valve seals
-New OEM Honda Headgasket
-H23 Manual Tensioner Conv.
-NGK Iridium Plugs
-2.5" custom piping exhaust
-Apexi WS2 muffler
-Walbro 190lph fuel pump
Dyno'd 200whp/156wtq on the dynojet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjvaOT_bdZE
Hoping around 208whp after my retuned that I plan on doing; since, I just got my Euro R IM installed.
I was told that my WS2 is pretty restrictive. And going about knocking out the wall and reweld it back up IMO won't do it any good. Just get a Greddy SP2 muffler if you want more and still retain an OEM look and sound.

Wow that really doesn't sound too bad at all
While i cant comment on the WS1 specifically, But it does seem a lot of people run those 22'' or several resonators/test pipes to tone the exhaust sound down to run a louder muffler without givin losing a whole lot...
Off topic, but what wheels are those?

Those are the Rota Circuit 8. Bought them brand new for $500.00 free shipping w/o tires off Jaydm[dot]com.

Re: Apexi WS1 too restrictive?
Thanks for the video. The exhaust sounds great. I'm hoping for 210-215whp. Thats why I wanna try something less restrictive.

Re: Apexi WS1 too restrictive?
No i havent really drove it at all. Its just sat in my garage and idled for a little bit since I've got it running. I'm gonna attach this exhaust for now and go from there. I really dont have another $1500 to pay for a new system, Hondata S300, ECU and tuning. I just love the sound of the WS muffler. I'd buy a Greddy SP2 if I could find one but they're pretty hard to come by.

Re: Apexi WS1 too restrictive?
I thought for the longest time that the exhaust I had was a WS2 but then I got to looking at pictures and realized mine was the older style. I take it there isnt much of a difference between the two? Flow wise?

IMO, there isn't that huge of a difference if any. Maybe slight internal difference besides the new look of the WS2.
