S8G - Is anyone familiar with this transmission?
Hey guys, friend of mine had a S40 gearbox but recently a bunch of crap went wrong, so he's changing the transmission. We found this S8G gearbox, which up until today we never heard of.
From initial research we found out that it came from a 1996-1997 Honda Del Sol Si JDM.
A good bit of the sites I checked linked back to this chart, which I cut out all but the S8G information it had on it.
Was wondering if anyone could tell me anything else about this transmission?
Oh, the car in question is a 1999 Honda Civic LXi sedan which has a D15Z4 engine in it. Came with an original manual transmission. I believe its USDM equivalent is D16Y7 but it may not matter too much since my research also showed that the S8G never made it into American Del Sols.
Thanks.

Just a little update in terms of looks it does look like one. Anyone know how much better or worse it is than the outgoing S40 gear box?

Well as it turned out, after the swap + lightened flywheel + short shifter, it worked out much better than expected

A photo of the transmission code
For years, I've always wondered what that rubber cap was keeping out or keeping in. *I see it on both manual and automatic transmissions
I removed the cap, so what is it?
GTS, what does this stamp signify? ( *:01 *)
The this stamp is also throwing me off as well
I want to find the gear ratios and final drive as I'm curious to know its top speed at about 6,800 RPM. *I don't know if it's a DX, EX or LX gearbox.
I had tried counting the ratio of turns between the input shaft and the output through each gear, but I keep losing track and then end up getting frustrated as I keep losing the mark I etched on one of the splines.

the gear ratios are the same as the d16y8 in the USDM civic ex which is what it says came in the del sol, except 5th gear is 0.702 in the usdm d16y8

New Question:-
I have a Civic EF 1988 with a D13B Swap. Recently swapped its stock gear with a S8G tranny but it didnt work out as expected as the shift times have remained the same as a stock long ratio tranny. What could be the possible issue?
