valve cover gasket sealant
hey guys...i plan on doing a valve adjustment this weekend and i will also be replacing my valve cover gasket. my friend changed his valve cover not too long ago, but he used a generic brand gasket sealant instead of honda bond. the instructions for the sealant said that it would take about 24 hours for it to cure, and he didnt drive his car till the next day. was that really necessary? is it the same w/ the honda bond or can i just drive it once i'm done?
btw...engine is a b18c1

Re: valve cover gasket sealant (GSR44)
I used Honda bond on my GSR valve cover with no leaks. Thats what Honda uses, they drive the cars with out waiting for it to dry. You should have no problems.

if you are putting on a new valve cover gasket there should be no need for any kind of sealant. the gasket is supose to be doing the sealing. if you have a problem with it sealing, then it is more serious than your gasket. you do not need to put on any kind of silicone when doing valve cover gaskets.

Re: valve cover gasket sealant (Boss Hogg)
hmmm....well, if it's worked for the both of you, i cant disagree...but i think i'd rather take the safe route and follow what the service manual says by using the liquid sealant.

Hey man put hondabond on the corners of the gasket where there is a wider spot for it. The service manuals dont say to put it on there for nothing. The spots where it says to put it are prone to leaking oil. True it wont happen to everyone, but do you want to be the one it does happen to? I can tell you mine has never leaked, but i always put it on.

ok.. try doin it without any sealant.. then... when your car leaks oil (it will) put some permatex on the edges. the edges where there the arch for the cam, just put a little goop on each edge then put the valve cover back on
