Default resurface rotors before or after new pads?

should i put the new pads in before or after i bring my car in to resurface the rotors?

or....is it worth making my car immobile for a few hours and taking off the rotors for the shop to cut them...so i can install the pads/rotors at the same time

what do you guys think?

You should resurface the rotors with an on-car lathe- replace pads after machining them.

don't bother resurfacing rotors; they will just warp again. it's more cost efficient to get new ones. and yes, you should replace your rotors and pads at the same time.

I think I agree, the local shop wanted $70 a piece to resurface my rotors on the car, my new rotors cost $39 each. well it might be a little more work, but thats at about half the cost.

70 bux?!?!? Are you kidding me? What a rip off. As for the $39 rotors, are these stock, or generic ones from AutoZone etc? Just get some Brembo blanks, they seem to work well.

Are your current rotors warped?? If not, I would not bother turning them since this only removes material which will make them warp sooner later. If the rotors are slightly grooved, I would also not worry about this. The new pads will be into these and actually have more surface area to grab with the grooves.

JEEZ!! take the rotors off yourself.. .take them to gas station, pep boys, garage.. where ever.. but don't pay more than $15/ rotor to be turned
I have found that the cheaper rotors tend to warp faster

these are for the rear brakes. about 40K miles on them. id replace them but the rear discs are more expensive than the fronts. i replaced (rather than cut) the fronts, but i dont think thats smart for the rears since they arnt used as much as the fronts

i took mine off and had them resurfaced at pep boys for $6 each. so, if i'm understanding all this correctly, the rotors will warp sooner after resurfacing them? so it is better not to resurface them at all?

When you resurface the rotors, you take material away from them. The less material you have, the easier it is to warp rotors.

I would just buy new rotors. I got all (4) rotors shipped to my door for $120. These were Brembo OE blanks. Colletti Motorsports is where I got mine.

yeah, but the rotors were from a 98 civic with about 54,000 miles so i figure it still has some life left on them. with rotors that has about that many miles is there a possibility they'll warp any time soon?

I wouldn't worry too much about the rears unless they are badly rusted. Just put some pads on and make sure the slides are free.

I whole-heartedly concur with the above statement
