Default Distributor bearing seized?!?! ripped the teeth off

So here's the deal. My buddy has been working on my car for me. He took the head off and we sent it to the head builders. They put in Omnipower springs and retainers, did a valve job, and new valve seals. Then my buddy installed some Buddy Club Spec3+ cams when he got the head back. So he put the head back on, and when he want to spin the engine over, it ripped the teeth off the distributor. He claims the bearing in the distributor stuck and this is the result.

I don't think it makes any sense. The distributor was new last year and hasn't caused any problems. I guess my question is, does this sound legit to you guys? Or is it more likely that my buddy screwed something up on the install?

damn three teeth! How long did the dizzy sit? If its along time them it could seize up and as you can see cause a world of pain. Maybe it got some moisture and rusted a bit. Just grab another and then see if it does it again. I wouldnt blame your buddy until you know for sure it wasnt mechanical and inturn human error.
