Re: Clearing Projector Lenses
There was a post on HID planet a while back where someone cleared his FX35 projector lens. He sanded it down working from 400 grit upto 2000 then shot it with some high temperature clear coat. It's the same type of clear coat you can use for your plastic headlights so it doesn't turn yellow and hazy. The results were amazing but I haven't kept up with that thread to know how it's held up so far.

Re: Clearing Projector Lenses
What was the point of the clearcoat if the projector lens is protected inside the headlight housing?
I didn't think you could sand glass in that way.

Re: Clearing Projector Lenses
There are different types of lens on some projectors. For ex, the fx35 comes in a frosted lens, fresnel lens, as well as clear lens.
The clear lens are used for a sharper and more colorful cutoff. It also provides a more intense beam along the sides and foreground of the beam. These clear lens usually run for about $40-100 so most people seek alternative methods.
I've checked it again and some of them are using clear coat to smooth out the fresnel lens so that it becomes clear. They then slap it in the oven at 300°.
Too bad we're not allowed to post hidplanet links in here...

Re: Clearing Projector Lenses
Yeah I know about the different types of lenses. I just can't imagine that a clear coat would have optical qualities good enough to actually improve output and cutoff from a patterned projector lens.
